Ghostwire: Tokyowill be missing the Prelude story on Xbox Series X/S. After the announcement, fans have taken to social media to voice their disappointment about not having access to all theGhostwire: Tokyocontent on their Xbox.
Ghostwire: Tokyois an action-adventure game released on PC and PlayStation 5 on June 20, 2025. As a preparation for the story, Bethesda released a free visual novel which served as a prequel to the game. After Microsoft purchased Bethesda in 2021, Phil Spencer, head of Xbox Game Studios, saidGhostwire: Tokyowould be released a year afterthe PlayStation version. On March 15 this year, it was announced that the game would be released on Xbox Series X/S on April 12, and would also be included in the Xbox Game Pass. At the same time, a new content update will be made available that adds a new game mode, extended story cutscenes, and new skills. Until recently, no announcements were made regarding the Prelude.

On Twitter, theGhostwire: Tokyodevelopers have announced that the Prelude will not be released on Xbox Series X/S. It seems the clarification was given as a response to a fan, however, both previous tweets have been deleted, so the exact nature of the exchange is not known. But once reading the news, other fans reacted negatively. Some attributed this development to thefeud between Sony and Microsoftdue to the ongoing attempt to purchase Activision Blizzard. Fans were pointing out how strange this sounds, considering both Bethesda and Tango Gameworks are owned by Microsoft, some going even as far as accusing Sony of having a hand in the missing visual novel, though there is no evidence of that being the case.
Gamers also mentioned that for many, it doesn’t give solace the Prelude is accessible on other platforms since they only own an Xbox. Most important of all, the majority of fans wanted to know the exact reason why theXbox version ofGhostwire: Tokyowill be missing Prelude. As of the writing of this article, no specific reason has been given by the developers.
