Summary
Genshin Impactis adding a new type of wind glider in Version 4.8, most likely tied to a new KFC collaboration. WhileGenshin Impacthas traditionally added wind gliders to every new region of Teyvat, unlocked by maxing out that region’s reputation level, players have long been hoping for more cosmetic options in this regard. Gliding plays an important role inGenshin Impact, and has been present since the game’s launch. It’s one of the best ways to traverse the open world, especially when paired with certain exploration mechanics, such as the Four-Leaf Sigils in Sumeru.
WhileNatlan inGenshin Impactwill be introducing mounts as the main exploration feature, gliding will likely continue to be a useful tool in every player’s arsenal. The lack of a universally obtainable red glider has long troubledGenshin Impactfans, who feel that the developers are biased towards the color blue. Many characters, such as Arlecchino or Thoma, simply lack glider options that work with their default outfits, and HoYoverse hasn’t added a non-premium glider since the Wings of Concealing Snow in Version 1.2.

According to hxg_diluc, one of the most reliable sources in theGenshin Impactcommunity, the developers are adding a new wind glider in Version 4.8. The color scheme for the wings is currently unknown, and hxg_diluc strongly suspects that it’s tied to another KFC collaboration. Given that thepreviousGenshin ImpactKFC promotionwas locked to China, and awarded the Wings of Feasting, it’s quite likely that the new collaboration will offer a similar arrangement. Players who don’t live in China will either be able to obtain it for free, or most likely through a different type of collaboration (such as Amazon Prime).
Genshin Impact Still Lacks Wind Glider Options in Version 4.8
Unfortunately, the lack of player customization has always been a major point of contention in theGenshin Impactcommunity, as many fans feel that HoYoverse has done little to release wind glider options or alternate character outfits. WhileKirara and Nilou are getting new skins in Version 4.8,Genshin Impactaverages four character outfits and one non-premium glider per year. By contrast, every patch cycle since Inazuma has introduced 17 characters to the game, and Fontaine will continue this streak when it debuts Emilie in Version 4.8.
That being said,5-Star characters inGenshin Impacthave always been the game’s primary source of income. They have understandably been the main focus for the developers for much ofGenshin Impact’s history, but a few small steps have been taken to improve player customization. Version 4.8 will add Trail Appearances to certainGenshin Impactcharacters, which players will be able to unlock through the Imaginarium Theater. However, it remains to be seen if this trend will continue in Natlan, as skins and alternate appearances for mounts would be an obvious choice.
