G2 Gozen made history as three of their members became the first women to be world champions in bothValorantandCounter-Strike: Global Offensive(CSGO). The all-women team from the EMEA region beat North America’s Shopify Rebellion at the recently concludedValorantChampionship Tournament (VCT) Game Changers Championship grand finals in Berlin.Formerly known as The Originals, G2 Gozen was signed toG2 Esportsin October 2021 to represent the organization in the VCTGame Changers. The current roster consists of Julia “juliano” Kiran, Petra “Petra” Stoker, Michaela “mimi” Lintrup, Anastasiya “Glance” Anisimova, and Maryam “Mary” Maher. G2 Gozen won 3-2, becoming the first-ever Game Changers world champion. Not only that, Juliano, mimi, and Petra now hold world titles in bothValorantandCSGO. Before becomingValorantpros, all three women were part of XSET’sCSGOteam until September last year.
Their achievement did not go unnoticed in the esports community.Valorantfans congratulated them on the win, calling them “legends” for their impressive performance in bothValorantandCSGO. Many also showed love for Glance and Mary for giving their all during the whole tournament. All G2 Gozen members expressed their happiness and gratitude on their respective social media accounts.
When Game Changers began, the fan-favorite to win it all was NA’s C9 White, who was dubbed asValorant’s first dynasty. However, the team was eliminated by Shopify Rebellion during their lower bracket run in Berlin. They placed 4th in the championship tournament. Nonetheless, Cloud 9 and members of C9 White also showed their support for the other teams, especially world champions G2 Gozen.
Overall, the first VCT Game Changers LAN was a success. Ever sincetheValorantprogram was announcedlast year, it gave all-women teams across all eligible regions to showcase their FPS prowess. Fans also got to see world-class talent with each match. At the Game Changers event in Berlin, there were no shortage of supportive cheers from the crowd. It seemed to be just as loud as the crowd from the main VCT LAN. It’s highly likely that Riot Games will continue this circuit, and hopefully, will open up more slots for the next championship.
