FortniteChapter 2 Season 2 kicked off exactly one week ago, and data miners have been busy combing through new game files ever since. Previously, these industrious fans turned up details on a brandnew type ofFortniteemoteas well as hints at a possible collaboration with rapper Travis Scott, and now data miners have unearthed information about a new Limited Time Mode that may be coming to the game soon.

As recently indicated by Twitter user iFireMonkey, theFortnitegame files now contain references that appear to point to a forthcoming Infected LTM. For the uninitiated, Infected is a game mode wherein “infected” players attempt to spread their contamination to “Survivors” who try to remain unaffected until a timer runs out. Indeed, iFireMonkey suggests that both “Infected” and “Survivors” are now mentioned in the game files, and this certainly seems to suggest that an Infected LTM is in the works.

Additionally, thisFortnitefanhas found that terms like “scream,” “heartbeat,” “growl,” and “double jump” also appear to be connected to the possible LTM. While it is currently unknown exactly how these terms would materialize in an Infected game mode, it is not difficult to imagine the Infected growling and the Survivors screaming, and perhaps one side would even be granted the ability to double jump.

However, all of this should be considered purely speculative untilEpic Gamesoffers official word on the matter. While the evidence of a forthcoming Infected mode is indeed compelling, it is always possible that it will never be deployed or that the game files are referencing something else entirely, and players should temper their expectations for the time being.

Even if an Infected LTM never materializes, though, there is still plenty for players to occupy themselves with inFortniteChapter 2 Season 2. This includes trying out the game’s new mythic weapons and completing the weeklyDeadpool challenges, which many fans expect will ultimately lead to a special Deadpool skin. Furthermore, it is almost a certainty that the developer will add even more content before this new season comes to a close, and further details on that should be available soon.

Fortniteis available now on Nintendo Switch, PC, PS4, Xbox One, and mobile devices.
