Supports are a fan-favorite staple of theFire Emblemseries that make their return inFire Emblem Engage. These special conversations are unlocked by building bonds, or support, between two units, serving as a great way to see characters interact with one another in often unexpected ways. Since grinding to reach max support level with every unit can be a slog for players, the recent 1.2.0 update forFire Emblem Engageadds a free new feature to help make attaining higher support ranks easier.

This latest update comes alongside newEmblems Hector, Soren, and Camilla, as well as their Divine Paralogues inFire Emblem Engage’s paid Expansion Pass. While these additions are exciting for players who have bought the DLC, this update also gives additional free content to all players that streamlines the game’s overall loop. The fact that Intelligent Systems is including this update as free content shows it knows how important support conversations are toFire Emblemfans.

Recreation Spots are Great for Building Support in the Somniel

The most common way to build support between units andunlock support conversations in theFire Emblemseriesis by having them stand next to each other during battle, which gives adjacent units support points after they perform an action. Players will naturally tend to group particular units together as a part of the tactics this series encourages, but while this can make it easy for some characters to quickly gain support levels, others are more difficult to see if they are not two units who are grouped together often - especially with the low deployment numbers inEngage.

To remedy this unbalanced method of increasing support levels, recentFire Emblemgames have added new methods for select characters to bond and gain support points outside of battle. InFire Emblem Engage, there are a variety of optionalSomniel tasksthat players can take part in to gain additional support points for various units. Giving characters gifts can raise support with the player character, sharing a meal with two units can increase support between all involved, and having units train can give them support points with their opponent; although who they spar with is random in the Arena.

While these additional methods of increasing support are great for giving specific units more support points, they are limited in the number of times they can be performed, or through the availability of gifts. The new Recreation Spot mechanic added in the latest update adds to the available methods for increasing support by allowing players to select two allies who partake in selectactivities around the Somnieltogether. These activities include tending to the orchard, taking care of animals at the stable, or swimming the pool, with one pair of units able to be assigned to one activity at a time.

Even though players are limited to one pair of units per-activity in each Somniel visit between battles, the addition of Recreation Spots is just another tool players have to help max out support levels without grinding battles using unfavorable unit formations. For an optional mechanic to get this must attention, its clear Intelligent Systems and Nintendo know how important it is to fans of the series (though it is an odd omission from the initial launch). The new supportfeatures inFire Emblem Engagedo a great job of expanding ways to increase support, which points to a solid direction for future entries in the popular series.
