The critically-acclaimed MMORPGFinal Fantasy 14has now been thriving for over a decade since it’s rebirth in 2013 withA Realm Reborn.In the intervening years, the game has seen dozens of updates and expansion releases, growing the number ofdungeons, raids, and boss encountersto dizzying quantities. While players have no shortage of enemies to fight, the ever-increasing character strength granted with every patch can make some of the older bosses no longer a challenge to fight. Fortunately, developer Square Enix has thought of a solution for this.
Faux Hollows and Unreal Trials areFinal Fantasy 14’s way of bringing backold boss fights from previous expansions. Each major patch, one boss will be selected to be turned into an Unreal Trial, scaling their health and damage to match the strength of modern-day characters, rather than syncing character levels down to the boss. This allows players to experience the challenge of these bosses as they were intended, while still retaining all the new abilities they’ve gained from reaching the level cap. Players won’t be tackling these bosses just for fun either, as defeating an Unreal Trial will allow players to earnvaluable and exclusive rewardsby playing the Faux Hollows mini-game.
How To Unlock Faux Hollows In Final Fantasy 14
Unlocking Faux Hollows and Unreal Trials will require players to have first completed the level 80 Main Scenario Quest “Shadowbringers” as well as the level 60 sidequest “Keeping Up with the Aliapohs” in Idyllshire (X:7, Y:6). Once both these requirements are met, players can accept and complete the level 80 sidequest “Fantastic Mr. Faux” in Idyllshire (X:7, Y:6), unlocking both Faux Hollows and Unreal trials. In order to enter the current Unreal Trial, players will need to have completed the original story-difficulty fight and reach the current expansion’s level cap.
How To Play Faux Hollows In Final Fantasy 14
In order to play Faux Hollows, players will need to successfully complete the current Unreal Trial, with each completion earning a single attempt. Unreal Trials areupdated versions of Extreme Trialsfrom past expansions, making them significantly more difficult than fights players will encounter over the course of playing the story, so it’s highly recommended that playersutilize the Party Finderand consult guides on the boss in order to improve their chances at success.
Once players complete an Unreal Trial, they can speak to the Faux Commander in Idyllshire (X:6, Y:6) to play Faux Hollows, where they’ll need to unveil different symbols on a 6x6 board by selecting individual tiles to reveal. Larger symbols like the 3x2 crossed swords are easier to discover but require more tile reveals to fully uncover and yield fewer rewards, while the smallest symbols like the 1x1 fox are the hardest to find, while providing the most rewards.
Players are able to reveal 10 total tiles per attempt.
While players are usually limited to only one Faux Hollows attempt per week,unveiling the crossed swords allows players who complete the Unreal Trial again for a second attempt at Faux Hollows, maxing out at two total attempts per week. The typical strategy for players regularly playing Faux Hollows is to spend their first attempt unveiling the crossed swords and using any leftover reveals to fish for any other symbols they can manage to find, while using their second attempt to look exclusively for high-value symbols. Players have even mapped out all possible configurations of the Faux Hollows tiles and createdcalculators to solve for the best tiles to reveal.
All Faux Hollows Rewards In Final Fantasy 14
Unveiling symbols in Faux Hollows rewards players withFaux Leaves, a unique currency only obtainable by playing Faux Hollows. These Faux Leaves can be exchanged with the Faux Commander in Idyllshire (X:6, Y:7) for a variety of exclusive rewards, such as popular mounts and minions. These items are often able to be listed on the market board as well, making ita potential source of gilfor those who have already obtained the rewards — or those uninterested in growing their collection.
