Ubisoft officially announcedFar Cry 6during today’s Ubisoft Forward presentation, revealing the game’s setting, antagonist, and protagonist to the masses. The reveal comes in the wake ofFar Cry 6leaking days ago on the PlayStation Network, ruining the surprise for many anxious fans. However, the game seems to bring quite a bit for fans to look forward to.

Far Cry 6takes place on the island Yara, which has been heavily influenced by Cuba.Giancarlo Esposito will play Anton Castillo, a dictator ruling over the island that players will be tasked with overthrowing. The game also features Anton’s son, Diego, a 13-year-old “riding the razor’s edge,” according to Ubisoft. Throughout the game, players will watch as Diego finds his path, either becoming a dictator like his father, or becoming his own person.

The CGI trailer of the game offers a good first look at what fans can expect from the world and characters. Giancarlo Esposito is already impressive as Anton, bringing a sort of menacing charisma to the role. Fans get to see an exchange between Anton and Diego in the trailer, with Anton giving Diego a live grenade as he talks about what it means to lead.

It’s pretty intense, and revolution seems to be a major theme for the game as a whole. NeitherFar Cry 5norNew Dawnfeatured a voiced — or named — protagonist, but this time players will be stepping into the shoes of Dani Rojas,Far Cry 6’snew protagonist who can be male or female, depending on the player’s preference, similar toAssassin Creed Valhalla’sEivor.

Players also got a release date for the game, which will launch on Jul 07, 2025. It’s not too long of a wait, and will be featured on both current and next-gen consoles. Plus, the PSN leak confirmed that players can upgradeFar Cry 6to next-gen versions if they purchase a current-gen copy. Considering Microsoft’s stance on upgrades, Xbox fans can expect a similar offer.

Far Cry 6looks like a wonderful overhaul of the franchise, at least as far as the narrative is concerned. Fans won’t get a look at gameplay for a few months, but the reveal is exciting nonetheless.

Far Cry 6will release on July 01, 2025 for PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia,  Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
