Brain Fungus is one of the many types of mutated vegetable players can find in the wastelands ofFallout 76. Like most other kinds of food, eating this restores a bit of hunger and health, though it also has a chance of making players sick while increasing their RAD levels unless cooked.
These brain-shaped fungi may not seem special, but they’re actually key ingredients for some of thebest consumables inFallout 76. Brain Fungi are relatively common, but if you really need to gather them in bulk, here are some of the best places to find some.

Best Brain Fungus Locations in Fallout 76
Brain Fungus is somewhat plentiful, especially around the Cranberry Bog region. You’ll likely run into isolated fungus patches as you explore the Appalachian wasteland, though you’ll have better luck if you visit the following places.
Gauley Mine - The Forest
If you’rejust starting your adventure inFallout 76, Gauley Mine is a good place to visit. you’re able to get up to 26 Brain Fungus all around the interior of this mine, and you’ll only need to worry about Scorched and Mole Rats. Also, you can potentially find magazines and bobble heads inside Gauley Mine, so keep your eyes peeled when you’re exploring.
Gauley Mine is located east of Vault 76, near Route 59 and close to Slocum’s Joe. There are two entrances to this location, one to the north and another down south. It’s near the railroad leading to the Morgantown Trainyard.

Kerwood Mine - Cranberry Bog
This POI is positively teeming with Brain Fungus. However, it is significantly more dangerous than Gauley Mine — apart from Scorched and Mole Rats, you’ll also see plenty of Mole Miners as well as giant ticks, ants, and radroaches. Expect to get into a lot of shootouts and close-ranged brawls, so come prepared.
Kerwood mine is located on the northwestern rim of Cranberry Bog bordering the Savage Divide. It is directly east of the West Tek Research Center.

Wendigo Cave - Savage Divide
Wendigo Cave is arguably the best place to get Brain Fungus, with over 100 pieces up for grabs. However, it’s full of Mirelurks, Feral Ghouls, and, of course, Wendigos. This is a very dangerous place to be in, so consider bringing one of themany Power Armor sets inFallout 76so you don’t die instantly.
You can find this ominous cave along Route 63 in the Savage Divide. It’s west of the road leading to the Atlas Observatory and the Ammo Dump.
