ThoughFallout 4was first released in 2015, the game has been kept alive due to its dedicated modding community. LikeSkyrimbefore it,Fallout 4is the latest Bethesda RPG to inspire the community to add to its fictional worlds. While there are many smaller-scale mods for the game, there are plenty of DLC-sized mods in development that add huge amounts of content toFallout 4. TheFallout 4mod, titled “The Fens Sheriff’s Department,” is a sequel to the 2019 mod, “The Bleachers - A Diamond City Story.” The sequel claims to be the size of a standard piece of DLC, expandingFallout 4’s Diamond Cityfurther with over 50 new quests, 15 unique NPCs, over 17,500 voice lines, and a new ending to the base game for players to experience. As well as this, the mod adds a new fully-fleshed-out companion to the game, complete with their own quest line. The mod adds a huge amount of content, as it also includes the original 2019 mod so players new to the series can experience both at once.
Despite the massive amount of new voice lines added, the protagonist lines in the mod are unvoiced. The choice tovoiceFallout 4’s protagonistis still debated to this day, with many feeling the voiced protagonist restricted role-playing potential, so it will depend entirely on preference whether players warm to the choice for this mod. Many mods that add lines for the protagonist inFallout 4use AI voice generators to produce dialogue, although this mod author has taken a more straightforward approach. This mod would combine well with one of the many silent protagonist mods, as it removes any potential disconnect between the voiced base-game lines and the unvoiced mod lines.
Fan interest in theFalloutfranchise remains high, despite the critical panning ofFallout 76. Despite this, Bethesda’s priorities seem to be elsewhere, withStarfieldandThe Elder Scrolls 6upcoming before any potentialFallout 5. However, the franchise remains in the public eye, withAmazon’sFalloutTV seriesarriving on the small screen sometime in 2023. With Microsoft’s acquisition of Bethesda, fans will be hoping that its desire to see a return on its investment sees a quicker turnaround inFalloutgames.
Fallout 4is available on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
