AFallout 2fan is remaking the cult classic 1998 game to turn it into an FPS, with an early build of the project now available to play for free. With the series considered to be among thebest post-apocalyptic games of all time, theFalloutname carries weight in the genre. Since the release of the third installment in 2008, when Bethesda took over the franchise and put its open-world first-person spin on things, the games have become huge successes in the AAA gaming sphere.
Now with a fifth entry being officially announced, here’s hoping thatBethesda will give more details aboutFallout 5soon. However, given that the game won’t be coming until afterThe Elder Scrolls 6, which still has no signs of arriving any time soon, it’s hard to know exactly when the nextFalloutgame will be released or even at what development stage it’s currently at. In the meantime, there are some fans who still fondly remember the original entries, and one person has decided to put a more modern twist on a classic game.

As spotted by PCGamesN, Itch.io user Jonasz O has released an early build of theirFallout 2remake, which converts the isometric game into a first-person shooter. While still maintaining the visuals of the original, it makes it possible for players to roam around this particular wasteland as though it were an earlyDoomtitle. Similar to the originalFallout 2, players will be given the opportunity to customize their character and use the VATS system for fighting. But with this fan remake, players can choose to go for real-time action. The project is still in development and in the alpha stage of development, but anyone interested can play the game in its current state via web browser on the modder’s Itch.io page.
This is also not the first time something like this has happened for the earlyFalloutgames. There is anotherFalloutproject that turns the game into an FPS, which is calledFallout: Bakersfield. Late last year, a brief teaser gave an overview of what players can expect from that fan creation that, similar to Jonasz O’s remake, makes the classic isometric turn-based game more like an action shooter.
WithEpic Games Store offering the olderFalloutgames for freein December 2022, there is evidently still some love for Interplay’s post-apocalyptic series. While the later entries are much more in keeping with contemporary gaming, there are those who will always fondly remember the late 90s games, which enjoy cult-like status to this day.
