Redditor u/Random_Robloxian shares a screenshot ofwhen they had found a player’s message inElden Ringthat refers to a specific Obi-Wan Kenobi meme fromStar Wars: Episode 3 - Revenge of the Sith. The meme comes from Obi-Wan stating that he has the “high ground,” which has also taken on a life of its own as a part of manyStar Warsmemes that originated from the prequel films. The message inElden Ringreads: “behold, high spot! therefore give up!” Because this message appears on a shore of rough terrain near a lake of lava in Mt. Gelmir, it is a clear reference to theStar Warsplanet of Mustafar.
This message accurately depicts theStar Warsmeme with contextual clues such as Mt. Gelmir portraying Mustafar, and the pre-made phrase of “high spot” and “give up” as close as the player could get to Obi-Wan’s actual quote from the movie. But this message is not the first clever reference that players have discovered. Similarly,one message has referencedThe Lord of the Rings' Mount Doom inElden Ring, with the message suggesting to players to “try throwing” the titularElden Ring.
Other messages left by players have been produced purely to troll other players, such asmessages that appear beneathElden Ring’s laddersto either troll or prepare players. Likewise, some messages allude to invisible walls or items that are not there. Some messages notify players of impending threats, but not all messages are trusted due to this imbalance of trolls and players who genuinely wish to help their fellow Tarnished. Still, these messages are oftentimes hilarious, and niche references with subtle contextual clues make for fun diversions in the Lands Between.
