It seems that fans ofElden Ringare at their wits' end, as r/EldenRing has blown up with memes poking fun at the complete lack of news about the game. Announced over a year ago at E3 2019, fans have received absolutely no updates from FromSoftware since then, prompting many to worry that the game is dead outright. Somehowexcitement has sustainedElden Ringthrough all of this, but as that excitement fades, memes are filling its place to hold fans over until some kind of news comes through. When that will be is still unclear, and right now, all eyes are glued to Gamescom.
Bandai Namco is responsible for publishingElden Ring, and it was recently revealed that the company will be making an appearance at Gamescom. Exactly what it will be showing hasn’t been revealed, but that hasn’t stoppedElden Ringfans from hoping and praying that they’ll get some new information. Even so, fan expectation is set low, as most aren’t predicting it will actually show up. Gamescom is at the end of this month on August 27th, so by then fans will finally see whether or notElden Ringmakes a much needed appearance and alleviates news-starved fans. For now, though, that hasn’t stopped them from losing their minds.

Jeff Grubb and Elden Ring
The most recentElden Ring “controversy: comes from Jeff Grubb. As the post above shows, when asked whetherBakugan orElden Ringwas more likely to be shown at Gamescon, Jeff Grubb answeredBakuganwith no hesitation. This has sent fans into a sort of humorous rage, as many on the subreddit call for r/EldenRing to change and become aBakugansubreddit. Of course, this is likely just a joke, but it has spurred many hilarious reactions.
Elden Ring Fans Taking Things Personal
One user shared this meme in response to afull year withoutElden Ringnews. Though funny, it shows just how crazy it is for a game to go radio silent for a year after it was announced, especially one as high profile asElden Ring. It’s been said before that no other game would survive this lack of news, as fans would surely lose interest in it, but FromSoftware holds a special place in the hearts of fans. Hopefully, the studio realizes that soon and gives these new-hungry fans something to chew on. At this point, the smallest reveal would likely go a long way.
Elden Ring Memes
Finally, a more meme-tastic approach is taken by this Redditor, although scouring the subreddit shows plenty more. The familiar meme format shows an extremely buff character who allegedly got that way by doing just one push up a day while waiting forElden Ring. Obviously, this is a jab not only at how long the game has gone without news but also how long many suspect it will take to release. With 2020 passing by without a word from FromSoftware, some fear thatElden Ringmay not even release in 2021. That is the worst case scenario, though, and there is nothing concrete backing that up one way or the other.
FromSoftware quickly became one of the most recognizable developer names after its immense success withDark Souls, and thelegacy ofDark Soulscarries it forward. Though diehard fans will likely always support the developer and its games, it will need to be careful not to lose people over this sort of thing. Communicating with fans has become an incredibly important part of the industry over the last couple years, as games likeBorderlands 3set a good example and become what fans expect from all studios, before the pandemic went full force. If anything, communication is more important now than ever. With any luck, this drought of information won’t last much longer.
Elden Ringis currently in development for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
