Given how massive of a gameElden Ringis, it shouldn’t surprise anyone that there are plenty of weapons for players to choose from and adopt to their own specific playstyles. Of course, not all swords, spears, or crossbows are created equal, and there are some weapons in the game that are clearly not meant to be used for longer stretches of the adventure.

It is also difficult to point towards a single, objectively terrible weapon inElden Ring.Between a complex upgrade system and the multitude of Ashes of War that can be applied to any armament, players have the ability to stick around with their weapon of choice and turn it into something that’s incredibly fun to use, even if it isn’t as effective as some of the more obvious, “meta” choices.

7Lordsworn’s Straight Sword

This is a sword that can be obtained at the very beginning of the game, right after visiting the Church of Elleh. It can befound in Limgrave, at the Godrick Soldiers' camp near the Gatefront Ruins Site of Grace.

While not a particularly powerful sword, it can be very enjoyable to use, mainly due to how quickly players can slash away at enemies with it. It doesn’t do much damage at the start, but once upgraded and equipped with the right Ashes of War (Blood affinity is highly recommended with this sword), it can become much more formidable.

6Club

The Club is a legendary weapon amongstDark Soulsand From Software fans. It is the starting armament of the Wretch class, as well as the subject of endless memes and ridiculous challenge runs. While quite dull and unimpressive in terms of hits and damage, a lot of fun can be found in using the club to prove one’sElden Ringcombat skills, once and for all.

Players looking for some extra challenge (as if completing a normal playthrough of Elden Ring wasn’t difficult enough) should attempt to get through the entire game as a Level 1 Wretch wielding only a Club. Asthis Reddit userhas proven, even the Club can be a powerful weapon when wielded by a competent enough player.

5The Serpent Hunter

Designed from the get-go as a gimmick weapon meant to be used only in one boss fight, the Serpent Hunter is probably the most useless armament in the entire game when it comes to late-game viability and the amount of damage it can deal to enemies (other thanRykard, Lord of Blasphemy).

Nevertheless, wielding it on horseback can be quite an enjoyable experience given its cool design and animations. With the right Ashes of War thrown into the mix, players can easily turn it into their go-to armament for dealing with Tree Sentinels, the Night’s Cavalry, and other boss battles that allow players to fight from horseback.

4Ghiza’s Wheel

Contrary to most other weapons mentioned here, Ghiza’s Wheel can’t really be classified as a terrible or even badweapon. It can deal a fair amount of damage and has quite a long reach, not to mention the fact that it causes blood loss buildup, one of the most sought-after passive weapon effects in the game.

One of Ghiza’s Wheel biggest flaws is the fact that it is painstakingly slow and gives enemies way too much time to get out of harm’s way, which makes it pretty ineffective against late-game foes. On the other hand, it looks like a pizza cutter, and when its attacks manage to land, they’re immensely satisfying. Ghiza’s Wheel is definitely one of the most fun-to-use armaments inElden Ring. It’s just a shame that it’s not equally as effective.

3Iron Ball

It’s impossible to understand how large of a role one’s build plays in determining a weapon’s effectiveness inElden Ring. The Iron Ball is the perfect embodiment of that. These iron fists equipped directly onto the character’s hands have a very short range and don’t really work that well when facing sizeable hordes of enemies.

On the other hand, few things are more satisfying than landing a juicy heavy attack with the Iron Ball straight onto a creature’s face. It also comes with passive blood loss build-up. The Iron Ball is a good alternative weaponfor Strength buildswho are up for the challenge and want to radically alter their playstyle without respeccing.

2The Torch

Most gamers will look at the Torch and consider it to be a mere tool rather than an actual weapon that can be used to fight enemies. However,Elden Ringis not like any other open-world RPG. In this game, the Torch can be wielded as a weapon and even upgradedwith Smithing Stones.

Realistically, it can never be compared to other armaments when it comes to killing bosses and dealing solid amounts of damage. Unlike the club, it is pretty much useless during most encounters, but can serve as a very fun supplementary weapon, and its Torch Attack special skill is very fun to use and effective at keeping groups of enemies at bay.

1Forked Hatchet

Although it’s classified as an axe, the Forked Hatchet really has more in common with daggers, given how the passive blood loss it causes and how ridiculously short it is. It’s rather useless forrecurring boss encounters, but when used by a high dexterity character, the Forked Hatchet can wreak some serious havoc during close-quarters encounters with mob enemies.

With a very quick and versatile moveset, hacking and slashing away at enemies with the Forked Hatchet can be a lot of fun, especially against Imps, who often get on players' nerves with their quick hatchet attacks that cause overwhelming blood loss. It is a near cathartic experience to beat these incredibly annoying mobs with their own weapon of choice.
