Not much is currently known aboutDragon Age 4, although reports point toward late 2023 as a potential release window. It’ll be exciting if that happens, and perhaps if that is the case, fans can expect moreDragon Age 4newsnear the end of the year and into the next. One thing many fans are excited about is the companions, past and new.
Solas is returning as a villain, and withDragon Age 4set in Tevinter, Dorian seems like a shoo-in as well. Varric got a little time in one of its early trailers too, so the crew is coming together in one form or another. For new companions, some believe that a Grey Warden will be among them, and others think the above image is potentially a silhouette of at least some of them. A female Qunari would definitely be super exciting to see, but it wouldn’t be the “most unique” thing in the franchise. True, they are rare, but two potential companions stand out even more.

Dragon Age 4 – An Executor Companion
The character on the far right is eye-catching. It could be the result of some form of necromancy, but they appear to have a skull-like face with blue flames attached to it. That, in and of itself, is a common image associated with necromancy, but for a character to bear it is different. There’s a solid chance that this character is one ofDragon Age’s executors, a thus-far unseen race who are in Thedas from lands unknown.
Dragon Age: Inquisitionshowed an Executor symbol, perhaps tying them to lands of water beyond Thedas, and it seems they have some interest inSolas’ plan for the Veil. One short story for Thedas talks about the Executor disguising themselves heavily, with a gender-distinguishing tone. Perhaps they can shapeshift, or perhaps they disguise themselves often because of their unique appearance. It is possible that this character is NOT an Executor, but then if players got an Executor, a blue-flame skull character, and a Dwarven Mage, it would certainly stand out.
Dragon Age 4 – A Dwarven Mage Companion
More so than an Executor, a Dwarven Mage appearing inDragon Age 4seems likely—despite this not technically being possible in Thedas. Beginning inDragon Age: Inquisition’s Descent DLC, Shaper Valta’s storyis clearly not over. The last the Inquisitor really sees of her is after she is exposed to Raw Lyrium, and driven mad by the song, hits the Inquisitor with some form of magic. A Dwarven Mage with some form of magic is huge and unique for the franchise, and she should absolutely return so her story could receive a proper ending.
What players learn is that the song connects her to a Titan—a big question given that theDarkspawn and Grey Wardensalso hear a song. Valta, notably, says the song fades and becomes soft, with a Titan recognizing her as a Dwarf and making her pure. This begs the question of what a “pure” Dwarf is, as players learn from her journal (that mysteriously appears in Skyhold) that the blood of a Titan flows through her and sings a song of a time before the Dwarven Race broke in two.
With these new abilities, Valta could add a ton to the lore of Dwarves and Titans, the connection between Lyrium and magic, the connection between the Darkspawn and Lyrium, and so much more. Tied in with Solas’ plans, it only makes sense for Valta to come back and play some role inDragon Age 4.
Fans will have to wait and see what comes ofDragon Age 4’s companions, ultimately.
