Blizzard’sDiablo 4Campfire Chat revealed upcoming changes to seasonal renown mechanics, including previously discovered Altars of Lilith and map discovery progression. Since its launch in early June,Diablo 4has seen massive success for Blizzard, not only with stellar reviews, but also smashing a longstanding sales record for the company. Even with all of that success, most players would agree that Diablo 4 isn’t a perfect experience, as numerous patches and updates have already released in the weeks since launch.
As a live service title,Diablo 4is constantly changing, both in terms of content as well as adjustments being made to the core experience. Some of these changes, like anerf to Diablo 4 dungeon XP farming, left fans a bit frustrated and looking for answers as to why these changes were made. To help address fan feedback and tease what the Diablo 4 team is working on, Blizzard held a campfire session, and revealed a number of upcoming tweaks and adjustments.

TheDiablo 4Campfire Chat, which featured prominent members of the developer team including Rod Fergusson, Joe Shely, and Tiffany Wat with associate director of community Adam Fletcher, answered some of the more pressing questions the community had brought up. On the topic of Renown, a seasonal resource that is earned for exploring and finishing activities in each zone, Blizzard confirmed that the team is currently reevaluating what system will need to be repeated since the mechanic is intended to reset with each new season.
However, the Campfire Session did confirm that some Renown progression aspects don’t feel great having to do more than once each season. Namely, map discovery will continue to match a player’s Eternal Realm achievements, so while waypoints will still need to be collected, they’ll at least show up on the map. The Renown earned for these areas will also be rewarded automatically to each new character. This is similar for the Altars of Lilith unlockables, which will not need to be collected again foreachDiablo 4season. While side quests, strongholds, dungeon renown will still reset, the team will continue to reevaluate and make changes down the road as necessary.
Another major piece to this Campfire Session was the recent uptick inHardcore characters getting killed due toDiablo 4server disconnects. With the added risk of permadeath, Blizzard is looking into ways to prevent these cheap deaths from happening, though a true fix isn’t arriving soon. For now, game director Joe Shely advised players to keep a Scroll of Escape in their inventory at all times as a temporary workaround will see the game automatically use it if a disconnect occurs.
Diablo 4is set to launch on June 6 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
