Summary

Destiny 2’s Lightfall launched to mixed reviews that quickly became mostly negative as more players got through the campaign and started spending time in the neon city of Neomuna. There were multiple layers to Lightfall’s failure inDestiny 2, starting with the expectations Bungie set with the “Our end begins” tagline and then the campaign being mostly about Strand, with little explanation about the core struggles between Light and Darkness. With these grounds, The Final Shape has to deliver, and while it’s understandable that players may have doubts, there are various reasons why pre-ordering the upcoming expansion now is a good idea.

Morale has been on the lower end within the community since Lightfall, but Bungie is making a good case about why players should trust the studio that things are changing - and that they are doing so for the better, very soon. For example, Bungie shared a State of the Game post toward the end of Season of the Deep, which addressed issues with consistently delivering ritual armor sets. This was received poorly by players, and Game Director Joe Blackburn took to social media with new details aboutSeason of the Witch inDestiny 2and future plans, including the developer making an Eververse paid armor set free for all to obtain in the game via ritual activities to make up for the lack of communication.

Why Destiny 2 Players Should Consider Pre-Ordering The Final Shape

Destiny 2’s Light and Darkness sagais coming to an end with The Final Shape after 10 years' worth of stories, and this alone is a good reason for players to pre-order the expansion and play it the moment it launches. Missing out on the very end of the saga after such a long build-up would be a waste, especially seeing how The Final Shape is going to be a self-contained environment, meaning the campaign, Raid, and final mission will complete the whole story - no additional requirements.

Destiny 2will feature Episodes after The Final Shape, giving up the seasonal model that has served it for so long, but still providing plenty of content for players to look forward to in between big releases. These Episodes will have nothing to do with the actual ending of The Final Shape and Light and Darkness saga, though, and pre-ordering the expansions means having a chance to experience the climax of the main story on day one without delays or spoilers.

On top of that, The Final Shape will feature its own Raid, which will not only be impactful for its storytelling purposes, but it’s supposedly going to be quite a good one. This is becauseDestiny 2’s Crota’s Endwas considered the benchmark for The Final Shape Raid, and Bungie purposefully increased the overall difficulty after the poor reception of Root of Nightmares based on how easy it was compared to past releases. With Crota’s End being so widely praised, there’s a good chance that the final Raid of this saga will deliver on many fronts, and it’s one of those launches that players will want to experience for themselves.

Lastly, players canget an Exotic with pre-orders of The Final Shaperight now, and that is the new weapon Tessellation - a fusion rifle capable of dealing damage corresponding to the subclass that’s being used. Not only that, the gun will also allow players to consume their grenade to shoot a powerful, slow-moving projectile at targets, all while refilling grenade energy with every final blow. If it’s anything like Quicksilver Storm from Lightfall, post-launch purchases of The Final Shape will still award Tessellation, though. Still,Destiny 2is about to enter a whole new era that’s very different from anything players are used to, and The Final Shape will be its biggest stepping stone.

Destiny 2is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
