Summary
The Pale Heart is going to be the main location for the events ofDestiny 2’s The Final Shape expansion. While this new environment will throw many new hurdles and challenges at the player, the Vanguard mentors and all the Traveler’s allies throughoutDestiny 2will be there for support and guidance, including the beloved Cayde-6.
The Pale Heart is located on the other side of the portal that the Witness created using the Veil and the Traveler at the end ofthe Lightfall campaign. The Veil still largely remains a mystery in terms of what powers it holds or how the Witness plans to use it any further and the same can be said for the Traveler, but these questions are bound to be answered once players are able to follow the Witness through the portal. It appears that the portal created by the Witness is instead a bridge, directly connecting the inside of the Traveler to the world around it.

The Pale Heart Is the Beginning and End of Destiny’s Entire Light and Darkness Saga
As for what players can expect from the Pale Heart upon first reaching the destination, it is said to be a mash-up of some of the major locations throughout both the originalDestinyandDestiny 2’s ongoing story so far, except with a few unique twists and additional locations. Based on what’s been shown so far, The Pale Heart will feature destinations resembling the old Tower, the Dreaming City, and the Darkness’ Pyramid ships, alongside several other returning and new locations.
As mentioned, there will be major differences between the original locations that players have become familiar with and the ones that will be recreated in the Pale Heart. The first twist on thesereturning locations inDestiny 2is that everything in the Pale Heart is created from the perspective of the Traveler. In broad strokes, these returning locations will still resemble their original features, but some details are likely to become lost or drastically misinterpreted in the Traveler’s adaptations. The second twist of the Pale Heart is that the locations will become increasingly discordant and unraveled as players pursue the Witness deeper into the Pale Heart. Players can expect things to be extremely chaotic by the end of the expansion.
The third twist of the Pale Heart is the Witness' unknown influence within this domain. Players can already expect that forces of Darkness like thenew Subjugator enemy typewill be present inside the Pale Heart, but what else the Witness is capable of remains to be seen. Much like how the Traveler is recreating destinations from the players’ journey, the Pale Heart will also feature locations based on the Witness’ journey that players haven’t yet experienced. Because of this, it’s likely that overall the Pale Heart will be a continuously evolving destination as players progress through The Final Shape’s campaign.
The Pale Heart is a part of the inside of the Traveler, both literally and metaphorically considered its heart. The name also relates to the connection between the Pale Heart andthe Black Heart created by the Vex, which was the Vex’s attempt at engineering their own Traveler to wield its power for themselves. The Black Heart succeeded in replicating the Traveler, but it lacked the means of wielding its power, and it was eventually destroyed by the Guardians. Several enemies of the Traveler have since attempted to revive the Black Heart, but they have all failed so far. Given that the Witness has weaponized the Veil as a means to wield the power of the Traveler’s Pale Heart, the Black Heart may yet again come back into the picture at some point during the Final Shape Expansion forDestiny 2.
