Right now,Destiny 2’s Season of the Wish is the best time to use the Stasis Subclasses because they are currently much stronger than before. Even with this in mind though, Stasis still isn’t the strongest option compared to the other Subclasses inDestiny 2, meaning it is still being picked over by a majority of players.
This is especially a problem because the Stasis Subclasses inDestiny 2have underperformed for a long time now. Not to mention,Destiny 2’s Season of the Wishwas anticipated to be the ‘Season of Stasis’ for the Stasis Subclasses to make a permanent comeback, but most of the major buffs for the Stasis Subclasses are unfortunately only temporary. Ultimately, it’s long past time thatDestiny 2gave the Stasis Subclasses a major, permanent upgrade that brings Stasis back into the meta.

Why the Stasis Subclasses in Destiny 2 Need a Major Upgrade
Originally, when the Stasis Subclasses were first released inDestiny 2’s Beyond Light expansion, they were quite powerful. Specifically, there were a few particular ability combos that resulted in some extremely strongStasis builds inDestiny 2for PvP game modes, so much so that many players felt that certain Stasis abilities weren’t properly balanced at the time. Consequently, each of the Stasis-Subclasses received a highly-requested nerf soon after that addressed this imbalance. This nerf significantly weakened the overall effectiveness of the Stasis Subclasses, arguably way too much, and Stasis has not been the same inDestiny 2’s meta since.
The main reason that Stasis is so powerful is because of the currentSeasonal Artifact Perks in Season of the Wish. While these Seasonal Artifact Perks are satisfying to use at the moment, these upgrades aren’t permanent, which means that Stasis is expected to be the game’s weakest class again once the season ends. The Stasis Subclasses also received a variety of permanent upgrades throughout Season of the Wish, but on their own, these minor stat increases won’t be enough to redeem the Stasis Subclasses once the Seasonal Artifact Perks are no longer available.

Beyond Season of the Wish, Bungie has hinted that the Stasis Subclasses are set to receive more permanent upgrades in the near future, like adding a new Subclass keyword “Frost Armor” and modifying/improving existing Aspects and Fragments.
How Destiny 2 Could Improve the Stasis Subclasses
While making the current Seasonal Artifact Perks from Season of the Wish permanently available could help address the problem with the Stasis Subclasses, Stasis has consistently been one of the weakest Subclasses inDestiny 2, so it might need more drastic changes than just minor stat improvements. Ultimately, the Stasis Subclasses are long overdue for a significant upgrade to be able to compete with the latest Arc, Solar, Strand, and Void Subclassmeta builds inDestiny 2.
The main problem with the Stasis Subclasses as a whole is that they lack variety. First and foremost, the three character classes only have access to one Super for the Stasis Subclass, whereas most of the other Subclasses inDestiny 2, aside from the Strand, have two distinct Supers. Some of the Subclasses will even be getting a thirdnew super in The Final Shape Expansion, which makes it especially frustrating that Stasis still only has one option for a Super. When it comes to the abilities, Aspects, and Fragments for the Strand Subclasses, there’s arguably only one good Stasis build for each character class that can perform adequately in endgame content and PvP inDestiny 2. For a loot shooter, that’s essentially a death knell.
So far, the announcement that Stasis is set to receive a new Subclass keyword, as well as reworked Aspects and Fragments, seems promising to the prospect of addressing some of the major flaws with the Stasis Subclasses. However, whether these upcoming changes will finally bring Stasis back into the meta remains to be seen.
