The recently-dropped mid-season patch forDestiny 2has made a vast number of weapon balancing tweaks while also introducing new measures which render environmental and fall damage non-lethal, a feature that has made for some hilarious moments in certain parts of the game. While some alterations to environmental damage were first made with the release ofDestiny 2’s latest expansion, Bungie had chosen to withhold further changes to the system.

Destiny 2’s 7.0.5.0 update saw a number of significant balancing tweaks to some of the game’s primary weapon types, something that had been highly requested by fans since the game’s latest expansion boosted difficulty across the board. Damage buffs to auto rifles, sidearms, hand cannons, pulse rifles, and scout rifles provide the weapons with some desperately needed help, as many armaments under these archetypes had proven ineffective against tougher enemies in mid to high-level content since the release ofDestiny 2: Lightfall. While the patch also succeeded in delivering fixes for several existing bugs, the number of new problems it has introduced for players has resulted in some claiming thatDestiny 2’s latest update has done more harm than good.

Though death by high-velocity wall impacts has mostly been a thing of the past sinceLightfall, the latest patch for the game has rolled out the ability to survive a fall from any height. These changes are a huge boon for players associated with “The Architects,” but considering the unpredictable nature ofDestiny 2’s troublesome physics engine, it’s not too surprising that players have already had some wacky experiences with the changes. One fan named Yukari7777 on Reddit shared a post on the site showing off what happens when a physics-resistant Guardian messes up in the Dares of Eternity obstacle course, with the fast-moving obstacles knocking the player wildly around the room after they attempted to use Strand to bypass the course.

Many in theDestiny 2community have responded with disappointment after the developers revealed an array of additional changes that were “missing” from the initial list of patch notes. While it’s hard to say how or why these notes weren’t listed right away, they’ve had a heavy hit on buildcrafting opportunities while also reducing the effectiveness of certain Strand abilities. Along with the long list of new and persisting bugs that areplaguing the experience for someDestiny 2players, it’s clear why many are unhappy with the overall impact this patch has had on the game.

Another unfortunate change made with version 7.0.5.0 is the removal of a popular bug that allowed players to double or even triple-dip the reward chests provided by Neomuna’s Terminal Overload activity. This activity provides an example ofthe loot problems inDestiny 2, as the rewards now offered by Terminal Overload are so poorly balanced against the necessary time investment that many fans have chosen to abandon the activity - and associated patrol space - entirely.

Destiny 2is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
