Warning: PotentialDestiny 2: Lightfallstory spoilers ahead.It isn’t uncommon for potential spoilers for films, video games, or TV shows to slip through the cracks thanks to promotional materials and products, and the soundtrack forDestiny 2: Lightfallmay have done just that with the title of one of its tracks. The series has seen its fair share of spoilers slip out in the past thanks, largely, toDestiny’s marketing materials leakingor dataminers uncovering data, but Bungie’s hands have been usually been clean. Depending on how the narrative in the new expansion plays out, though, Bungie will be directly responsible for letting slip a cataclysmic event set to hit the Sol System.
TheDestinyuniverse has seen its fair share of disasters befall the various races currently occupying the Sol System, the most pertinent to humanity being the Collapse. However, a little digging in the lore will uncover other cataclysms to befall other beings across the galaxy, whether it be the Elkisni Whirlwind, their equivalent to the Collapse, or the various races the Hive have wiped out over several millennia. The Cabal suffered the most recent disaster inDestiny 2as they, under the leadership of Empress Caiatl, were forced to flee their homeworld after a mass Hive invasion led by Xivu Arath.

While Bungie has hinted at a second potential Collapse facing humanity with thearrival of The Witness,Lightfall’s soundtrack may be hinting at a worse fate to befall the Sol System. The track in question is number 28, titled “Syzygy,” which features various musical motifs from acrossDestiny’s history related to the Cabal, Light, Darkness, and Hive. However, the title itself is also a reference to a cataclysm mentioned in the lore related to the origins of the Hive and how The Witness tricked the three sisters who would become the Hive gods Oryx, Savathun, and Xivu Arath.
The Syzygy was described as the alignment of the 52 moons above Fundmanet, where the Hive was born, which would create a god-wave capable of wiping out all life on the planet. It was later revealed inThe Witch Queento be a trick by The Witness to create the Hive, and it was left ambiguous whether the god-wave ever took place. That said, including a track onLightfall’s soundtrack hints that the Sol System may be in store for its own Syzygy, with recent trailers sharing glimpses of the system’s planets aligning in a manner similar to how the lore described Fundament’s moons.
It remains to be seen if this ends up being a spoiler toDestiny 2’s narrative directionor simply an Easter egg for players interested in the game’s vast lore. If it were to be the former, players could argue it is akin to the soundtrack forStar Wars Episode Onespoiling the death of Qui-Gon Jinn before the film was released. Bungie would have spoiled a potentially massive, universe-changing event withLightfall’s soundtrack, but players will need to wait to playLightfallto see if that is indeed the case.
