Destiny 2might currently be in a weird state for players, withmany taking a break due to burnoutor lack of interest, but there is the feeling that Bungie is building towards something. From leaks to rumors, there are hints thatDestiny 2Year 4 could be a major turning point for the franchise, and now game director Luke Smith has chimed in to echo those sentiments.
Among the majorDestiny 2content creators to have taken a break from the game is King Gothalion. At one point, Gothalion was one of the most recognizable members of theDestiny 2directory on Twitch but a lot has changed since then. Most notably,Gothalion moved to Mixer, but he has also started to incorporate more variety into his broadcasts.

Still, like manyDestiny 2players, Gothalion is intrigued by the possibility of Year 4 and hopeful that the fall expansion will bring something big. And according to Smith,Destiny 2players are “not prepared” for what is next.
Smith’s comment might be only a small tease, but it is enough to get someDestiny 2players excited. From darkness subclasses to thecoming of the pyramid ships, there is a lot of speculation about what Year 4 could offer. To be fair,Destiny 2players have been prepared for the arrival of the Darkness for a while now – the pyramid ships were first teased back in Year 1 – so there should be more to it than that.
This marks the first time that Bungie has designed a fourth year within aDestinyexperience and so it gives the devs a lot of room to work. They now know what players do and don’t like and hopefully, they can highlight the positives without repeating any of the negatives.
It’s important to point out that Smith and Bungie have regularlytouted upcomingDestiny 2contentas monumental, and in most cases the developers have delivered. However, how Bungie hopes that players respond and how they actually feel about new DLC sometimes differ.
Bungie tried to pivot towards what players wanted withDestiny 2’s Year 3 model, but may have overcompensated. Now, the studio is having to explain how it plans to change the existingDestiny 2design to better suit what players want.
Also, it’s worth mentioning that both Gothalion and Luke Smith areold schoolWorld of Warcraftplayers, so the quote might be more of an in-joke than a hit. “You are not prepared,” is what Illidan Stormrage says to players before they face off against him in the Burning Crusade expansion.
