It’s officially been half a year since the last Game Awards show, and that means it’s also been half a year sinceDeath Stranding 2was officially revealed. As expected with Hideo Kojima’s projects, the last teaser left fans with plenty of questions with answers that likely won’t be made clear until the game is finally released. TheDeath Stranding 2reveal strictly kept itself vague in terms of story elements, with no hints provided in terms of gameplay.
Naturally, this has left many futureDS2players guessing as to what the game could be about, and what’s in store for Sam Bridges in his strange world. One of the things that has kept players guessing about Kojima’s new title is the fact thatElle Fanning has been castas one of the performers. However, there hasn’t been much of anything as far as news forDeath Stranding 2goes since the teaser was shown to the public. Luckily, one big opportunity is coming up that may be the perfect chance for Kojima to show more of whatDS2will offer gamers.

Geoff Keighley’s Summer Game Fest
In 2020, Geoff Keighley of The Game Awards fame worked with developers and publishers to create Summer Game Fest, an event that ran from May to August to help give gaming companies a place to present what they were working on in the place of the canceled physical E3 2020 event. Now, E3 has once again been cancelled for 2023, and numerous developers and publishers have announced that they’ll have something to present at SGF instead. What once was an event designed to help the gaming industryin the absence of E3is now almost set to take its place.
What makes Summer Game Fest important when it comes toDeath Stranding 2is that Summer Game Fest is like the “Christmas in July” toThe Game Awards' big world premieresand exclusive reveals. The two go hand-in-hand, and it seems reasonable for a game in development likeDS2to release teasers in summer and winter at both events to keep fans excited and interested. This rings especially true for Kojima, who’s friends with Keighley himself.

Hideo Kojima’s History With The Game Awards
Kojima has a rather strong history with Geoff Keighley’s events, even ifDeath Strandingitself doesn’t.Death Strandinghad shown a considerable amount of teasers and trailers at previous E3 events, but Kojima did make numerous appearances at the Game Awards to promote his game during development. One prominent moment at the awards show saw Kojima finally being able to obtain theBest Action/Adventure Game award forMetal Gear Solid 5back in 2016 after being unable to the year previously due to legal issues with Konami.
Needless to say, the circumstances behind Kojima’s award in 2015 and 2016 have intimately linked the Game Awards with the founding of Kojima Productions, so it’s only reasonable that Keighley’s connections would help encourage Kojima to promoteDeath Strandingat his events. It’s likely that the majorDeath Strandingteasers being shown at E3 was part ofSony’s contract with Kojima Productions, but now, E3 is stuck in a rather difficult rut with no show this year.
With no other shows available to promoteDS2, along with Kojima and Keighley’s rather prominent friendship, it’s very likely that it will show up in some way, shape, or form during the event, and it’s likely to be a teaser of some kind. After all,DS2was revealed at Keighley’s Game Awards show, so it would not be surprising if Kojima did another favor for his friend. Fans should most definitely keep an eye out for a trailer from Keighley himself, which will likely showcase a number of the titles that will appear at the showcase. If Sam Bridges, Fragile, or Lou appear, then it’s almost guaranteed that the next bit of information aboutDS2will come from Summer Game Fest.
Death Stranding 2is currently in development.
