Zero Two is the main heroine (and, perhaps, deuteragonist) ofDARLING in the FRANXX. She is half-human, half-klaxo. Zero Two is one of the members of the APE Special Forces and an elite Parasite.

She bears the codename “002” and refers to Hiro as her partner (and “darling”). Zero Two is a part of the 13th Plantation, piloting the FRANXX Strelizia. She constantly struggles with fending off her inner demon while striving to attain full humanity.
10On The Outside
During her childhood, Zero Two did not look as human as she does in most of the show. Zero Two had red skin, long and sharp nails, and fanged teeth. Her eyes were almost more red and the horns on top of her head were a lot bigger.
Over time, Zero Two skin got whiter. She got taller of course; in fact, Zero Two is the tallest of all the girls in the squad and taller than most of the boys too. Zero Two’s pink hair grew long as well while the horns got smaller. Her eyes got less red; now, they are turquoise and white (although still a bit red).
9On The Inside
As a kid, Zero Two was treated badly by humans because she was always seen as a monster (due to her Klaxosaur blood). Therefore, she acted defensively and even aggressive at times towards people. But Zero Two was genuinely a cheerful and curious little girl;this came out when she interacted with Hiro.
Despite her nickname “Partner Killer,” Zero Two was not as cold and dangerous as people suspected while growing up. She just wants to “become human,” after all. Zero Two did not like following the rules and was certainly smug (yet carefree). She retained some of her childlike quirks from her childhood though, often eating with her hands and licking other people.
8Sweet Tooth
Zero Two has a sweet tooth, which means of course that she gravitates towards sweet-tasting food and craves sugary goods in general.

This is verified throughout the show as Zero Two is frequently seen sucking on lollipops. Also, often she will help herself to candy…and cakes…and any other sweets Zero Two can get her hands on. On top of that, she squirts honey all over her food whenever possible.
7"Zero Tsu" And “Oni”
In Japanese, Zero Two is a nickname. This is the katakanization of the numbers of her code in the English language. It is pronounced “Zero Tsu.”
In fact, her codename can be alternatively read as “Oni” due to the numerals of her actual name (“Code:002”). This is pronounced “Zero Zero Ni.” (The reason being the zero is said like the letter “o” and the number 2 is “ni” so therefore “Oni”!)
6A Pair Of Horns
On top of Zero Two’s head sits a pair of horns. When taking into consideration the alternate reading of her code in Japanese (“Oni”), which directly translates to “demon,” this holds up. However, Zero Twois not as evil or savage as a demon!
Moreover, the pair of horns do not seem to have nerve endings. The nails on a human being’s fingers do not either, which is why people have no problem clipping them. She has no problem modifying the horns via filing either.
5"Nine Iota"
Zero Two’s old codename is “Nine Iota.” This is because Iota is the 9th letter in the Greek alphabet. Also, kanji for the number 9 is “kyuu” or “ku,” which means “pain,” and “anguish,” and “suffering,” and “hardship.”
Together, “ku” and “oni” make “Kuoni.” In German, this means brave!
4Vanquish
Zero Two’s theme song is “Vanquish” by Asami Tachibana. In English, it is sung by Monique Dehaney. The lyrics actually summarize her thoughts and feelings!

For example, “Mother used to say ‘You are so special. No one will shine as bright, my dear.'” And, “Will I tire of slaying endless beasts that hunt them? Will the killing rid me of these horns that disgust them?” Also, “Little demon in the forest all alone.” Finally, “We can with the fight and vanquish my fear.”
3Left-Handed
As seen in the show, Zero Two is left-handed. This is revealed when she is drawing for the first time in one of the episodes. (Did you know that only about 10 percent of people in the world are left-handed, while the other roughly 90 percent are right-handed?)
Also, regarding drawing, Zero Twois actually quite a decent artist. She likes to take her picture book and recreate the images from it on paper. Zero Two prefers using colored pencils.
