Despite one being the sequel of the other,DestinyandDestiny 2are two very different games in several ways, and withVault of Glass returning, many Guardians have rewatched how the Raid was run back in the first game. One of the major dissimilarities is that classes and subclasses have substantially changed inDestiny 2, both because of the introduction of Stasis and because of class-specific third abilities introduced in its sequel. In fact, players can now use Dodge, Barriers, and Rifts inDestiny 2, whereas they were not part of the original.
Of course, many other things have changed over the years, and both games grew apart in their corresponding meta both for PvE and PvP activities. Now that Vault of Glass is coming back,Destiny 2Guardians will test their strength against the Vex with a new arsenal of weapons and powers, but that doesn’t mean the Raid will be any easier than inDestiny. In fact, Wyverns are rumored to be a part of it, and some of the tools of destruction used in the first game will not be available inDestiny 2, including the Dark Drinker and the Super Good Advice, to name a few.

Classes, Exotics, And Weapons Differing Between Destiny And Destiny 2 In Vault of Glass
Back inDestiny, the meta for subclasses in the Vault of Glass Raid was not too dissimilar from what it will probably be inDestiny 2. Titans will be very useful with the Ward of Dawn super, from the upper tree of the Sentinel subclass, which inDestinywas effectively called Defender. There were several useful perks for it in the first game, including Weapons of Light, which granted a spicy bonus to weapon damage to both the Titan and the fireteam when passing through the bubble. Even the Titan-specific Exotic used is the same in both cases, with theHelm of Saint-14dominating thanks to its powerful crowd control capabilities. However, Titans inDestiny 2can also count on the middle tree of the Striker subclass to use in combination with a relatively new Exotic, called Cuirass of the Falling Star.
Hunters don’t see many changes for the release of Vault of Glass too, as the predominant Exotic and subclass combination will likely beGunslinger with the Celestial Nighthawk, just like inDestiny. However, Hunters have acquired very powerful Exotics inDestiny 2, including the now-banned Star-Eater Scales for when the Raid is released tomorrow, and they will be usable again a little while after the release so that their damage boost won’t ruin the completion race. InDestiny 2, Guardians are more likely to take advantage of the Nightstalker’s tether and the Orpheus Rig, so as to generate tons of Orbs of Power and guarantee critical strikes on enemies and bosses.
For Warlocks, things are very different now inDestiny 2, and that’s mainly because of the addition of the Rifts and a few key Exotic armor pieces that truly tie things together whenplaying as the Dawnblade(Destiny’s equivalent of the Sunsinger). Back then, Sunsingers would focus on Ophidian Aspect or Sunbreakers, using perks like Fireborn. This allowed the Warlocks to use their Super, Radiance, while dead to be revived, too. Now, however, Dawnblades can delve into utility much more thanks to Exotics like Phoenix Protocol and Boots of the Assembler, allowing their Well of Radiance to be extremely powerful offensively and defensively alike.
Of course, subclasses, abilities, and class-specific Exotics are not the only differences betweenDestinyandDestiny 2when it comes to the Raiding meta. Vault of Glass is one of those Raids that requires very specific gear to handle it properly, andDestinyplayers had to mix and match weapons in between encounters based on the enemies to face. Part one, for example, is one where hand cannons, shotguns, and swords do much better than other weapons because of the enemies pushing mostly for close-range combat, with Praetorians leading the charge. Comparing the weapons used is no easy feat, but it should suffice to say that inDestinyscout rifleswere pretty dominant, with Hung Jury being one of the best weapons in the game, but those were different times, and perks like Firefly were very strong for clearing adds, thus especially powerful in VoG.Destiny 2Guardians, on the other hand, will likely focus more on grenade launchers and sniper rifles.
Destiny 2is available now on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
