TheResident Evilfranchise has had its fair share of odd spin-offs ranging from light-gun games to online first-person shooters, and the upcomingResident Evil Re:Verselooks like it will continue that trend. When it launches next year, this online competitive shooter will pit players—each of whom will assume the role of a familiarResident Evilcharacter—against one another in various combat arenas. It’s effectivelySuper Smash Bros.,but for the cast ofResident Evil.

So far, only a handful of the series' greats have been confirmed to be joining the fray; big names like Leon S. Kennedy, Jack Baker, and Claire Redfield are among the highlights of the roster. But ifResident Evil Re:Verse, which was previously announced as part of the games' 25th-anniversary event, is going to be a celebration of all thingsResident Evil, then hopefully Capcom can find some space in the roster for more of the franchise’s iconic faces.

Albert Wesker

It’s frankly shocking that Albert Wesker hasn’t been confirmed forRe:Verse’sroster. Prior to the introduction ofResident Evil Village’sbreakout character, Lady Dimitrescu, Wesker was perhaps the most recognizableResident Evilvillainin the series. His expertise with firearms, agile athleticism, and proficiency in hand-to-hand combat all make him a perfectly viable candidate to take onRe:Verse’s roster.

Ethan Winters

Given Capcom’s apparent commitment to hidingEthan Winters’face, it may be a little difficult to incorporateResident Evil 7andVillage’sprotagonist into a third-person title. But assuming that hurdle can be overcome, Ethan definitely deserves a spot due to being the latest star of the franchise. Given Ethan’s reputation for being incredibly durable, that could be a trait reflected in the gameplay. Perhaps he could be a tank capable of taking heavy damage.

Alice

ThisResident Evilcharacter has yet to appear in the games, but she has headlined the live-actionResident Evilmoviesfor quite some time now; including Alice in this non-canon spin-off of the mainline series might be the perfect way to bring Milla Jovovich’s iconic role full circle. It’s easy to imagine Alice going toe-to-toe with some of the series' heavy-hitters, as she is notably skilled when it comes to nearly all-manner of combat, whether that be melee, ranged, or a mix of both. Furthermore, she has quite a few outfits that would make for perfect alternate costumes.

Joe Baker

Jack Baker is a force to be reckoned with, and his brother, Joe, is no picnic either. Joe made his debut inResident Evil 7’s End of ZoeDLC, where he was revealed to be an estrangedmember of the Baker familydrawn back home after discovering his brother was the root of the infection running throughout Dulvey, Louisiana. This member of the Baker clan is capable with firearms, but he’s a far more adept barehanded fighter. Aided by his Umbrella-manufactured robotic arm, watching Joe Baker educateResident Evil’scast in the way of the fist would be a wonderful reminder of the series' sillier side.

Jake Muller

Like Joe Baker,Jake Mulleris also emblematic of the series' penchant for ridiculousness. He was created for the action-heavyResident Evil 6,and as such, Jake’s characterization is just as wild as the main game itself. He demonstrates some incredible speed and strength throughoutRE6,and similar to Joe Baker is also capable of taking down hordes of zombies using only his fists. This all makes sense once it’s revealed that he is the secret son of the series' main villain, Albert Wesker.

Lady Dimitrescu

In a “who’s who” ofResident Evil,it’d be tragic ifRe:Versewere to omit the series' latest breakout character.Lady Dimitrescutook theResident Evilfanbase by storm upon her reveal inVillage’sreveal trailer, and a significant portion of the fandom would surely appreciate any opportunity to play as this nine-foot-tall vampire lord. Given her durability and size, it’s likely she’d be a tanky character, but expandable claws should, theoretically, give her some range. With other notable stalkers like Jack Baker, Mr. X, and Nemesis confirmed to joinRe:Verse’sroster, the step-on-me lady definitely deserves a spot as well.

Resident Evil Re:Verseis currently set to release in 2022 on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
