It’s not long now before a year will have passed since the release ofResident Evil Village. The game received strong reviews from consumers and critics alike, and though the game has plenty to do in terms of story, scares, weapons and more, that hasn’t stopped fans wanting more in the form of a DLC. Though around Halloween 2021 developer Capcom revealed that somefree DLC was in the works forResident Evil Village, so far there has been little news on it.

WithResident Evil’ssoft reboot sinceResident Evil 7gave fans a new protagonist, the franchise’s popularity has seen a boost, withResident Evil Villagehaving sold over 5.7 million copiesas of January 2022. It seems strange then, that Capcom has yet to capitalize on this success by bringing new content for the game. However, it looks like after months of silence, Capcom may be teasing the free DLC that was announced back in October 2021.

On the Capcom Games website, there’s currently a page called Capcom Countdown, which when loaded shows viewers an eerie dark space, with numbers written in white which will count down to zero towards the end of this week. At the time of writing, there’s no word on what this mysterious countdown is officially alluding to, yet many are speculating that this Capcom Countdown will eventually reveal the upcomingResident Evil VillageDLC. However, there are other theories of what the countdown would be referring to, with hope also being sparked for a newStreet Fightergame.

With the design of the web page though, it seems most likely that the reveal will be something to do withResident Evil. Considering it has only been nine months since the release ofResident Evil Village, it’s entirely unlikely a new title will be revealed for the franchise. An update or reveal of the announced DLC is the most likely event, yet what aResident Evil VillageDLC will look likeis currently unknown. Many are hoping that it will add new story elements, alongside new weapons and characters to keep those in the original game from getting stale.

Given the time since the announcement of aResident Evil VillageDLC, many fans have had plenty of time to speculate on the featured character of the DLC, and the kind of story it could feature. Many believe that renowned character Chris Redfield would be the playable character, and astory could set up the events ofResident Evil 9. Soon though, Capcom will hopefully confirm whether these speculations hold any truth.

Resident Evil Villageis now available on PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
