Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3revealed the patch notes for its Season 2 update, which launched today on February 7.Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3’s newest major update includes some significant gameplay changes, in addition to its new content.
In terms of new content,Call of Duty’s Season 2 updateincludes a variety of new maps, game modes, and more forModern Warfare 3Multiplayer andWarzone. Fans have more to look forward to later in Season 2 when a mid-season update will add new map variants and game modes forModern Warfare 3Multiplayer and a new POI and field upgrade forWarzone. The mid-season update will also add some new Zombies features. While these additions have been announced for some time, Season 2’s gameplay adjustments went unannounced until today, and many fans are excited about the changes.

Modern Warfare 3revealed that Season 2 made a significant adjustment to health regeneration by decreasing the time it takes to begin regaining health from 4 seconds to 3 seconds, as well as increasing the health regeneration rate from 40hp per second to 75hp per second. It’s likely that these two changes together will significantly speed up combat inModern Warfare 3, as players will be able to rejoin a fight at full health much sooner. Season 2 also introduced a major change to ADS idle sway, which now begins shortly after a player aims down sights instead of beginning instantly. And once it’s activated, ADS idle sway will now gradually increase over a three-second period instead of beginning at full power. However, these changes do not apply to sniper rifles.
Gameplay Changes with Modern Warfare 3’s Season 2 Update
Modern Warfare 3’s Season 2 update also introduced a change to the hipfire crosshair, which no longer sways from the center of the screen while a player moves or rotates their camera. Fans ofModern Warfare 2(2022) mapswill likely be excited to hear that Season 2 has also added an assortment ofModern Warfare 2maps toModern Warfare 3Quick Play. These maps include Breenbergh Hotel, Farm 18, Crown Raceway, Mercado Las Almas, and Shoot House.

AlthoughCall of Duty’s newest update has been a hit with many fans,Modern Warfare 3Zombies fans haven’t been so enthusiastic. Despite Season 2 having a zombie theme, it added no content to Zombies at launch, although it does plan to add some with a mid-season update.

GLOBAL
GAMEPLAY
Today’s update includes substantial adjustments to core attributes of weapons in Modern Warfare III and Warzone. Prompted by player feedback and internal review, these changes intend to improve the precision and responsiveness of aiming, particularly while using a mouse - although, these changes may be observed regardless of the input device.
ADS Idle Sway
While a player is aimed down sight, idle sway is active. This mechanic discourages players from holding their sights for an extended period of time with a constant, subtle motion that introduces slight inaccuracy.
These changes ensure that players with fast reflexes and precise aim aren’t disadvantaged the moment they aim down sights.
Hipfire Crosshair Sway
The trajectory of weapon bullets is represented by the hipfire crosshair position on the player’s screen. Previously, the crosshair was influenced by the direction of the weapon, causing the firing direction to deviate from the center of the screen. Today’s changes eliminate the resulting compromise to accuracy without sacrificing the weight and reactivity this motion added.
These changes reward skillful aim. Simply put, where you’re aiming is where your bullets will go.
Looking Ahead
Please take some time to adjust to these changes and let us know how you feel. We’ll continue to monitor your feedback as we determine our next steps for aiming and related mechanics.
We’ve adjusted health regeneration to better match the pace of gameplay. Now, for example, it’ll only take ~5s to heal from 1 to 150 health, down from the previous ~7.7s. These changes aim to enhance the intensity and satisfaction of gunfights.
We look forward to your feedback as we determine our next steps for health regeneration.
