A few days ago, it was confirmed that the classic map Hardhat would be making its way to playersduringCall of Duty: Modern Warfare’smidseason update. Unfortunately, that update hasn’t been released just yet, and while some people seem to think it might be next week, as of the time of this writing, we truly don’t really know when that update will be coming. That, however, hasn’t stopped players from getting in lobbies with the map, as certain players were glitching into them this past week, through what appears to be no fault of their own.
The news was first broken by CharlieINTEL, who’s been receiving reports this past week from multiple players saying that they were being put into lobbies with the map. The fact that multiple people are able to get into these lobbies makes it seem like this is a pretty widespread issue.

The map name in these glitchedCall of Duty: Modern Warfarelobbies appears as A_MENU/MAPNAME_HARDHAT, meaning this is almost certainly an unfinished build of the map. According to the reports, players who do find themselves in these lobbies say that, as expected, the map is unplayable. The lobby will either completely crash, kicking them back to the main menu, or it will load up a game in the same playlist on a different map.
Hardhat is a map that was originally featured in 2011’sCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 3and quickly became a fan-favorite. When Infinity Ward confirmed that the map was coming toCall of Duty: Modern WarfareSeason 3, many fans were thrilled, so it’s understandable if they were disappointed after being thrown into the glitched lobbies, only to find themselves not being able to play the map. And the worst part is that players still don’t know if it’s coming today, next week, or the week after.
It’s interesting to note that a similar bug happenedbefore the start of Season 3when players were able to get into lobbies with Backlot and Hovec Sawmill (then called Village). Like now, players couldn’t actually get into the map itself, only into the lobbies.
If this is truly a completely innocent glitch, and people aren’t purposefully exploiting their way into lobbies with the map, then Infinity Ward needs to do one of two things. Either it needs to just deliver the map to fans in the next update or they need to fix this massive bug. Either way, fans not being able to play a game, for any reason, is always a bad situation and one that needs to be fixed as soon as possible. Though with basically the entire industryworking from home due to the COVID-19 pandemic, who knows how long it will take.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfareis available on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
