After a fairly lengthy wait, Infinity Ward has finally revealed its plans forCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 2Season 3, and things are looking a lot brighter for the multiplayer shooter. Though it initially launched with a respectable amount of content,Modern Warfare 2’s adoption of the seasonal approachhas led many fans to expect more from the game, and it finally seems like Infinity Ward is delivering on its promise. More modes, Operators, and maps are all heading toCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 2in just a few days' time.
One of the biggest criticisms of the last few Seasons ofCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 2has been the lack of new 6v6 maps. While iconic maps like Shipment and Shoot House have been remade forModern Warfare 2’s multiplayer, they haven’t really scratched the same itch as a brand-new map. Thankfully,Modern Warfare 2Season 3 is set to add a total of five new maps, with one of those bringing back an intriguing feature from 2019’sModern Warfarereboot.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Season 3 Is Smart to Bring Back Night-Vision Maps
2019’sCall of Duty: Modern Warfarebrought a lot of new and exciting features to the franchise, from the ability to wall mount, to itsfan-favorite Gunfight modeto its overall state-of-the-art visual aesthetic. But there’s one feature that isn’t talked about nearly as much as the rest, and that’sModern Warfare’s night-vision maps. Upon its initial launch, players could hop into a match of just about any ofModern Warfare’s regular game modes, and they’d have a chance of playing on a map set in the pitch black of the night. Unlike maps set during the day, these dark maps required the use of night-vision goggles to properly see the environment. These maps would also automatically equip every primary weapon with a laser attachment, replacing its sights.
Generally speaking, these night-vision maps weren’t too loved by the community, being taken out of the regular map rotation after just a few months. But these night-vision maps were a lot better than some fans give them credit for, drastically changing how the player approaches the map. Though they might not have been everyone’s cup of tea,Modern Warfare’s night-vision mapswere a nice change of pace for those that wanted them, and it’s great to seeModern Warfare 2embrace that.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2’s Season 3 update will herald the return ofModern Warfare’s night-vision maps. Available right from the start of the Season,Modern Warfare 2’s “Black Gold” map will drop players ontoWarzone 2’s Rohan Oil point of interestin the middle of the night. Though gameplay footage hasn’t been revealed just yet, it seems as though Black Gold will play pretty similarly toModern Warfare’s nighttime maps, giving every player a set of night-vision goggles.
While this new map is again not likely to get an overly enthusiastic reception, it should be taken more as a sign that Infinity Ward is more determined than ever to packCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 2with new and more diverse content. According to the official Call of Duty blog, this is just the “first iteration” of night-vision maps inModern Warfare 2, so fans can expect to see a few more before the game’s support ends. But these night-vision arenas aren’t the only maps fans can look forward to, asModern Warfare 2Season 3is also adding at least two brand-new 6v6 maps, along with a handful of new Ground War maps based onWarzone 2’s POIs.
