For the past few years, Activision has kept a tight lid on its newCall of Dutyprojects, waiting until the end of the summer to reveal them instead of announcing the titles earlier in the year like it used to do. That’s changing with the 2022 entry, as Activision has officially announced two newCall of Dutygames that are in the works for 2022: one is a sequel to the 2019Modern Warfarereboot, and the other isCall of Duty: Warzone 2.
This was confirmed in a report by Charlie Intel, with theModern Warfaresequelreportedly being built using a brand-new engine. This same engine will be what powers the nextCall of Duty: Warzone"experience," which is being built as a companion to theModern Warfaresequel. Problems inCall of Duty: Warzonestarted after the game tried to integrate content fromBlack Ops Cold WarandVanguard, so it makes sense that this new version will be tied to a singleCall of Dutyexperience.

A release date for the newCall of Duty: Warzoneexperience wasn’t announced. It’s possible that it will launch alongsideCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 2this fall, but it’s also possible that it will come some time after launch. After all, the originalCall of Duty: Warzonegame didn’t launch until about five months or so after the2019Modern Warfaregamereleased.
Specific details on what fans can expect from thisnewWarzoneexperienceweren’t revealed, but it’s said to be a “massive evolution of Battle Royale” with an “incredibly ambitious sandbox mode,” according to CharlieIntel’s reporting. What this means exactly remains to be seen, but fans should find out in the months ahead.
While a newCall of Duty: Warzoneexperience is in the works, it doesn’t mean that the current version ofWarzoneis being abandoned. On the contrary, Raven Software and Activision acknowledged that there were some serious missteps with introducing theWarzonePacific map, and are apparently dedicated to fixing the game. Plenty more updates for the current version ofWarzoneare in store, though its fate after the newWarzoneexperience launches is unclear.
There were previous reports that thenext version ofCall of Duty: Warzonewould be next-gen only, but that wasn’t clarified. Fans will just have to stand by for more information on the newModern Warfaregame as well as the nextWarzoneexperience.
