Activision has yet to officially reveal 2021’sCall of Dutygame, though it has confirmedsomedetails about it. Recently, Activision confirmed that a new main seriesCall of Dutygame will indeed release during the holiday 2021 season as expected, and that the next game in the long-running franchise is beingdeveloped by Sledgehammer Games, the studio behindCall of Duty: Advanced WarfareandCall of Duty: WW2.

Besides confirming Sledgehammer Games to be the studio for the newCall of Dutygame, Activision also touched on the newCoD’s relationship withCall of Duty: Warzone. Activision confirmed thatCall of Duty2021 will integrate withCall of Duty: Warzone, but stopped short of explaining exactly how significant the integration will be. There have been rumors thatCall of Duty2021’sWarzoneintegration will not be as dramatic as it was withBlack Ops Cold War, but that remains to be seen.

Call of Duty: Warzonewas integrated withCall of Duty: Black Ops Cold Warlate last year, about a month afterBlack Ops Cold War’s launch. The integration saw manyCall of Duty: Black Ops Cold Warweapons added toWarzone, which resulted in some backlash from the community. The connection between the two games deepened a few months after the initial integration, whenCall of Duty: Warzone’s Verdansk battle royale map was changedto matchBlack Ops Cold War’s 1980s setting.

TheCall of Duty: WarzoneNuke eventsaw the Verdansk map go back in time to 1984, which is whenCall of Duty: Black Ops Cold Wartakes place. Considering this, it’s possible that something similar will happen to makeCall of Duty: Warzonematch more closely with 2021’sCall of Dutygame. The newCall of Dutygame has not revealed its setting, but reputable leakers have given fans an idea of what to expect.

If the leaks are to be believed, the 2021Call of Dutygame is set during World War 2. If that’s the case, then it wouldn’t be surprising to see a World War 2 version of Verdansk, and in fact, that is something that has been hinted at by leakers. Alternatively, it’s been suggested thatCall of Duty: Warzonemay get anew Rebirth Island-sized mapbased on World War 2 instead, but again, nothing concrete has been confirmed at the time of this writing.

IfCall of Duty2021 follows the same pattern asCall of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, it’s likely that the reveal won’t come until late summer. Whenever Activision does decide to pull the curtain back on the game, it will be interesting to see which of theCall of Duty2021 leakswere accurate and which ones were not.

Call of Duty 2021is in development for unspecified platforms.
