What Is The Plot Of Blumhouse’s Imaginary?
The Blumhouse horror movieImaginaryis about a woman named Jessica who spends time at her family home and realizes thatAlice, her stepdaughter, has a creepy stuffed bear. Fans who loveM3GAN,which has some funny moments, can see where the plot is going. As the official description on Blumhouse’s website reads:
“an original horror that taps into the innocence of imaginary friends - and begs the question: Are they really figments of childhood imagination or is there something more terrifying just beneath?”
The trailer shares snippets of the scary tale, which opens with Jessica moving back into the home that she lived in as a kid. She says, “I had such good memories here. Maybe my happy place can be our happy place.” There’s only one problem: Jessica’s stepdaughter Alice is playing with Jessica’s childhood stuffed animal Chauncey, and something seems off.
As Alice tells Jessica:
“Chauncey says you’re not allowed to play with us.”
By the end of the trailer forImaginary, it’s clear that, like thekiller dolls M3GAN and Chucky, Chauncey is anything but a sweet brown bear. Chauncey convinces Alice to make a list of the things that scare her, including “something that hurts.” There areseveral deaths inM3GANand it seems clear thatChauncey will go on a killing spreeinImaginary. It was smart for Blumhouse to make another movie about an innocent-seeming toy who is actually dangerous and the movie looks as fun, entertaining, and campy asM3GAN.
Who Is Starring In Blumhouse’s Imaginary?
DeWanda Wise plays Jessica, one of the two main characters inImaginary.Pyper Braun plays Alice, Jessica’s stepdaughter. The other cast members areTom Payne, Dane DiLiegrol, Veronica Falcón, Matthew Sato, Taegen Burns, and Betty Buckley.Jeff Wadlow wrote and directedImaginaryand has worked on several other Blumhouse projects:Truth or Dare, which has similarities toSmile, and the 2020 film adaptation ofFantasy Island.
While it remains to be seen what the rating ofImaginaryis, it could be PG-13 likeM3GAN, which tells a scary story about a doll instead of a bear. Jeff Wadlow talked aboutTruth or Dare’s PG-13 rating in an interview withDen of Geekand said something that seems to apply toImaginary. He said:
“I felt thatTruth Or Dareshould be a PG-13 from the beginning because ultimately it’s a movie about a game, and it’s a game that you play when coming of age. And I thought it would be of service to the film to not limit its availability to people who were coming of age.”
DeWanda Wise is known for starring in movies such asThe Harder They Fall,Poolman,Fatherhood, andSomeone Great. Her biggest role was playing Nola Darling in the TV seriesShe’s Gotta Have It, which aired from 2017 to 2019. She also stars in the upcoming TV adaptation of the Lisa Taddeo non-fiction bookThree Women. Wise also starred inJurassic World Dominion, which fans can watch on Amazon Prime Video.
The rest of the cast of Blumhouse’sImaginaryhave some familiar credits to their names as well. Tom Payne played Paul “Jesus” Rovia in The Walking Dead and the spin-off Fear The Walking Dead. Betty Buckley has some horror credits, including playing Dr. Karen Fletcher inSplitand Mrs. Jones inThe Happening.
