While much of the industry is putting emphasis on bringing back older games, with the upcomingDead Spaceremake and fans wanting to see a modern take onResident Evil 4, there are some who are committed to doing the opposite. Withmodders even managing to demake the likes ofElden Ring, there are those in the community who want to see what new games would look like with a retro aesthetic. At the start of the year, a PS1-style reimagining ofBloodbornewas released to high praise, with its creator wanting to branch out into kart racing territory.Lilith, aka b0tster, has not rested on their laurels since launching the demake ofBloodborne, which is simply titled “Bloodborne PSX,” and has been working hard to turn the retro-looking game into a racer. A number of recent tweets on their profile shows the work that’s already been done, demonstrating the current mobility of the bike, which is complete with a rattling animation and full engine sounds. There’s even a clip which shows the hunter mowing down enemies in a large open area which is currently being used for testing purposes.RELATED:Bloodborne Demake Speedrun Beats Every Boss in Under 15 MinutesIt seems as through progress on it is coming along nicely, despite thedeveloper only recently announcing theBloodbornekart racerwith an amusing teaser trailer. On top of the clips uploaded to Twitter recently, Lilith has also said that the project is at a “crossroads” and that it could end up becoming four different games. At this stage, it’s unclear when the kart racer will be released, but if it’s anything likeBloodborne PSX, it will almost certainly go down well with fans, especially those who love the originalBloodborne.
While FromSoftware recently launchedElden Ringwhich is doing well in terms of salesand critical reception, there are plenty in the community who have not forgotten about the gothic action RPG from 2015. While the fan-made PSX version does not incorporate the entirety of the original, it was still downloaded 100,000 times in less than 24 hours.
It also shows that demakes are popular among gamers. With modders showingwhatResident Evil 4would look like as a PlayStation title, it seems evident that there is room in the gaming sphere to turn the clocks back a few years or even decades. While the industry continues to strive for new technologies and game development techniques, the opportunity to play a retro-style kart racing game in theBloodborneuniverse is one that will likely be a breath of fresh air for some gamers.
