Summary
Hogwarts Legacywas released with tremendous success, reuniting fans of the wizarding world and providing players with hours upon hours of nostalgia. One of the ways in which it achieved this is with a wonderful cast of professors, who are just as full of character as the teachers from the originalHarry Potterseries.
From fun-loving professors whose enthusiasm for their chosen subject echoes around the castle, to the quieter and more diligent teachers with an air of intrigue about them,Hogwarts Legacyhas it all when it comes to the staff department. Of course, some of the professors are more likable than others, and the students themselves certainly have their opinions on whothe best and worst professors are inHogwarts Legacy.

Updated June 29, 2025 by Joe Grantham:With Hogwarts Legacy releasing on Nintendo Switch, the hugely successful wizarding adventure is now available on all the platforms it was promised. As a new wave of would-be witches and wizards start their journey at Hogwarts, the professors and other staff members of late 19th-century Hogwarts await their new students.
In terms of ability, demeanor, and especially culture, the teachers in Hogwarts Legacy are just as varied as those during Harry’s time at the School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. From the wildly incompetent Headmaster to the affable Charms Professor who will put a smile on any student’s face, the game is certainly full of great characters.

Unknown
Phineas Nigellus Black is perhaps the most hated Headmaster Hogwarts has ever seen, and it doesn’t take long to find out why. On the first day of term, he announces that Quidditch is banned for the entire school year,a decision that is lamented by the entire school.
Throughout the game, players will hear constant complaints about his leadership from both students and staff. It appears he has no interest in the education or well-being of students, and is only drawn to the prestige associated with the position.

Longtime Professor Of History Magic since before he became a ghost
Professor Binns is the only teacher inHogwarts Legacywho is still going during Harry’s time in the 1990s and has seemingly been putting students to sleep for centuries. Having taught until a late age, Cuthbert Binns passed away in his armchair but rose the next day as a ghost and continued teaching as usual.

His History of Magic lessons are renowned for their lack of engagement, and he has a special knack for droning on about useless facts. Not only is he one of the worst professors in the game, but in the history of Hogwarts too.
Possibly a scholar of Astronomy

Professor Shah is the professor of Astronomy inHogwarts Legacy, a discipline of magic that was not seen too much in the mainHarry Potterseries. Both by talking to her and finding letters in her classroom, players will discover that she is a scholar very much focused on the stars.
Her extreme devotion to her subject can leave Satyavati Shah slightly out of touch with her students, who see her as cold. Herdisregard for other branches of magicdoesn’t help either.

Bombarda
Bai Howin is the Beasts Professor at Hogwarts and remains as elusive as some ofthe magical creatures she tends to. Poppy Sweeting, a fellow animal lover, seems to have a low opinion of Professor Howin, but it is hard to tell if this opinion is shared by others.
While at first glance it appears that her office and sleeping quarters are part of the cabin that will one day become the home to Hagrid, his actual hut is further away from the castle, on the slope that leads to Lower Hogsfield. Here players will find a small tombstone with a depiction of a Hippogriff.

Descendo
Professor Of Divination at Uagadou
Compared to the inconsistent ramblings of Professor Trelawney in Harry’s time at Hogwarts, Professor Mudiwa Onai is a stellar Divination teacher. Although players won’t get to experience much of Divination, by listening to their fellow students, they will hear just how great she is, both as a teacher and a Seer.
As the mother ofGryffindor companion Natsai, players can learn more about the pasts of these two witches by talking to either of them. Professor Onai also has some interesting things to say about Professor Weasley.

Arresto Momentum
Madam Chiyo Kogawa is a Japanese witch and very nearly became a professional Quidditch player in her home country. After working alongside Professor Weasley, she was invited to become the new flying instructor at Hogwarts when the position became available.
By talking to her, players will learn of her incredible sense of honor and self-restraint, all of which she hopes to instill in her students. As a massive fan of Quidditch, she is also one of the professors that students can relate to the most, and players will notice that throughout the school year, she continues to plead for the return of Quidditch with Headmaster Black.

Expelliarmus
Unspeakable at the Ministry of Magic
Professor Dinah Hecat is one of the more diligent professors at Hogwarts and seems to have occupied the position of Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher for much longer than those during Harry’s time.

Naturally, players will learnplenty of powerful spellsfrom Professor Hecat, all of which will be important for dealing with the most fearsome of foes. As a former Unspeakable at the Ministry, she also has an intriguing past, which involves being wounded by time itself.
Transformation
Due to the incompetence of Headmaster Black, Professor Matilda Weasley has more on her plate than a Deputy Head would usually have. She also plays an important role in helping the player settle into Hogwarts and catch up on their education. One of the ways in which she does this is by introducing the main character tothe Room of Requirement where they can design their own beautiful space.
By progressing through the story and also talking to other characters such as Professor Onai and Madam Kogawa, players will learn that there is more to their Transfiguration Professor than first meets the eye. For example, she once traveled the world as a Curse-Breaker for the Ministry. Interestingly, her descendent Bill Weasley, would also go on to become a Curse-Breaker, although in his case, for Gringotts Wizarding Bank.
Diffindo
Auror at the Ministry of Magic
Professor Aesop Sharp may not be the most popular teacher due to his stern nature, but there is no denying that the students of Hogwarts are better off for having someone as experienced as him as their Potions Master. In some ways, he strikes a balance between the two Potions Masters during Harry’s time at Hogwarts, Severus Snape, and Horace Slughorn, and even comes from Slytherin House just like them.
As a former Auror, Professor Sharp is able to prepare his students for the dangers and reality of the outside world, all while providing them witha solid grounding in Potions. If players want to find out more about his intriguing past, including the reason for his limp, they can ask him after class.
Stupefy
Lumos
Researcher of Ancient Magic, traveling the world with his wife Miriam
Although he doesn’t appear to do much teaching, Eleazar Fig is nonetheless a Professor of Hogwarts. As the main companion on the player’s journey to discover more about their ancient magic, Professor Fig has plenty of time to cement himself asone of the best characters inHogwarts Legacy.
One of his best qualities is how he treats the main character like an adult and an equal. His flaunting of certain rules, especially those set by the headmaster, endears him to the hearts of players. After all, troublemakers at Hogwartsalways resonate with fans.
