Back 4 Bloodfeatures plenty of new monsters for fans of zombie-shooters to take on head-to-head from the towering Tallboys to the monstrous Ogres, but one Ridden variant takes the cake for being a new interpretation of the classic horror monsters: the Abomination. The Abomination is the final boss ofBack 4 Bloodand is a huge Ridden that’s mutated far past the normal levels seen to that point in the game. In the final act, the monster begins attacking Fort Hope and it’s up to the cleaners to take destroy the Abomination and give the other survivors enough time to escape the settlement.
As it turns out, the final boss monster packs quite the punch and is pretty difficult to take out, especially when playing alone withBack 4 Blood’s relatively dumb bots. It’s a fight that will test everything the game has taught the player and require masterful levels of Ridden management to get the job done. The fight is most easily won when playing with friends online as tasks can be mitigated between Cleaners, but victory is definitely achievable when played solo as long as the player knows what to expect.

Abomination Phase 1
The fight against the Abomination has three phases. The first has the players take on a group of four tentacles that have burst out of the street to cause chaos. Before jumping over the fence to get to the street area, make sure to stock up on all supplies needed for the fight. There are plenty ofhigh-tier weaponsstrewn about next to the helicopter crash site and the item shop should be right next to the fire escape when the players spawn. Good items to purchase are pipe bombs to deal with the massive hordes of Ridden that are incoming as well as as many healing items as possible. After climbing the fire escape to make it over the dividing fence, the cleaners will land in the street and should begin taking out the Ridden that are congregated nearby.
After a few seconds of fighting, the four tentacles should pop out of the street and begin attacking the players. Focus all fire on the open, purple glowing parts of the tentacles while avoiding their attacks. They’re pretty easy to avoid and leave themselves open for massive damage after slinking away from a missed attack. The true challenge in the first phase is dealing with the tentacles while taking as little damage from the constantly incoming Ridden horde as possible. It’s best to focus on one tentacle at a time while stopping to clear the Ridden from the area periodically. Try to save throwable items for the next phase as the following area gets smaller and grenades and pipebombs will be an easy way to take care ofthe swarms of Riddenthat the Cleaners will be packed underground with.

Make sure to be careful around the downed tentacles as they’ll spit out pools of acid in their surrounding area until the first phase of the fight concludes. After taking all four out, make sure to take a breather and restock using the supplies provided in the surrounding area.
Abomination Phase 2
After jumping into any one of the four tunnels in the street made by the tentacles, the Cleaners will come face to face with the Abomination itself. The mutant Ridden has two weak spots in this phase: the two glowing growths inside its mouth. Players will want to be attacking those growths as often as they can when the monster’s mouth is open to be dealing damage until they burst. As mentioned above, this area is considerably smaller than the streets so make sure that Ridden are being taken care of as they come and that no one ever gets completely overwhelmed.
The Abomination will begin attacking using its tentacles once more which will be spitting acid across a much greater area and shooting forward to attack the player. Avoiding these attack is pretty simple, but requires the players to be paying attention to predict the monster’s moves instead of dealing with the surrounding Ridden, so things might get a little bit hairy here. Make sure to heal accordingly and this phase, while more challenging than the first, should be over relatively quickly. If playingBack 4 Bloodwith a group of four, designate two Cleaners for dealing with the regular Ridden as support and have two focus on fighting the Abomination. Those playing solo will essentially be on their own when it comes to the Abomination as the bots won’t take much initiative in fighting it.

Abomination Phase 3
As soon as both mouth growths are dealt with, Phase 3 of the fight will immediately start. A countdown clock will begin denoting that the player has five minutes to finish off the monsterbefore it destroys Fort Hope. This phase is pretty simple as long as the player keeps moving and makes sure not to fall off any of the ledges in the underground cavern.
The Abomination will retreat and theCleaners should follow after grabbing whatever supplies they needfrom the Phase 2 room. They’ll be able to see four glowing weak spots on the monster’s body which is precisely where they should be directing their fire. Use the tunnels in the cave to maneuver around the beast and take out its weak points. Be careful not to run underneath it as this will result in an instant death by being crushed by the boss. Instead, run around the sides of the room running and gunning, taking out each weak point one by one. Also, be careful of tall ledges as some will result in the player hanging and requiring rescue which isn’t an ideal time sink during the final fight.
After the four growths have been destroyed, the game will enter the final cutscene and the player will have finishedBack 4 Blood’s campaign. The fight is certainly much easier said than done, especially for those playing solo, but after a few attempts of learning the boss' patterns, players should be able to beat it in no time.
