The proper reveal ofAssassin’s Creed Valhallahas been gratuitous, to say the least. Already, players are aware of some of the game’s mechanics like the ship crew and raids, some of the game’s story beats like King Alfred, and the apparent presence of Odin in the main storyline. Now, one of the newest reveals is that ofAssassin’s Creed Valhalla’s romance system, with inspiration taken fromAC Odyssey.

It’s worth mentioning thatAssassin’s Creed Odysseywas the first franchise entry to feature optional romances, so it’s not too big of a surprise to see it present inAssassin’s Creed Valhalla. That said, fans don’t have to worry about it being the exact same game, as recent comments from the game’s creative direction indicateValhallawill not featureOdyssey’s level grind. As such, players can “play the content they want.”

The same likely goes for optional romances, but they are indeed an option and do sound similar toOdyssey. Speaking to Stevivor, Narrative Director Darby McDevitt stated, “there’s a lot of romances to have that can be found all over the map and you can choose how to approach them any way you see fit.” LikeOdyssey, heterosexual and homosexual relationships will all be possible formale or female Eivor inAssassin’s Creed Valhalla.

This’ll likely go far for fans who liked the option and the varied romances spread acrossOdyssey’s map, although it’s worth mentioning some of these were hit and miss. ToOdyssey’s credit, it had some great romancesthat re-occurred throughout the game or had a unique gameplay mechanic attached. Some were basic fetch quests, though, and there was one that revolved around sating an old woman’s physical needs because her husband no longer could. Of course, when the DLC forced a heterosexual relationship inOdyssey, it led to a huge debacle that hopefullyValhallalearns from.

It remains to be seen how the romances are exactly treated inAssassin’s Creed Valhalla, but multiple choices spread across the game map means it is somewhat comparable toOdyssey. While a lot of questions have already been answered, many are likely clamoring for more. Luckily,Assassin’s Creed Valhalla’s gameplay revealis scheduled for May 7, so fans don’t have a huge wait ahead of them.
