It’s hard to follow in the footsteps of Thanos and offer something fresh and exciting. However,Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumaniawriter Jeff Loveness assures fans that Jonathan Majors' Kang the Conqueror will stand out uniquely.
After the Infinity Saga, fans were left wondering who would be the next big villain in the MCU and if that villain could live up to expectations. Fast forward a year or so,Majors made his first appearance as a variant of Kangin theLokiseason one finale, delivering a performance that became an instant fan favorite and one that led many to believe Kang would be a worthy successor to Thanos.

With Majors gearing up to star inAnt-Man 3as the main antagonist, Loveness shared how the entire creative team wanted to create a character who felt human, adding that fans will be seeing a much different side to Kang this time around. “To me, it’s all about the humanity,” Loveness said in the upcoming edition ofSFX Magazine. “Obviously Thanos is a great, iconic villain, but he’s also a big purple CGI guy. He’s an alien from outer space. The thing I really wanted to lean into is that Kang is a human being. Kang’s also a very lonely character. We’re going to be seeing a lot of him in a lot of different ways going forward, but I really wanted to introduce the humanity and even the vulnerability of this character before he gets to such apocalyptic, Avengers-scale heights.”
If there is anyone to bring the performance to life, it’s Majors. The rising star has built quite the resume in recent years, appearing in award-winning projects likeThe Last Black Man in San Francisco, Spike Lee’sDa 5 Bloods, HBO’sLovecraft Country, and Netflix’s westernThe Harder They Fall. Last year, he starred in the critically acclaimed war film,Devotion, and he is set toduel it out with Michael B. Jordanas the main antagonist in the upcoming boxing dramaCreed 3.
Majors’Ant-Man 3co-star, Paul Rudd, has alreadypraised his performance as Kang. Kang appears to impact not only Scott and otherAnt-Mancharacters in the upcoming film but the wider MCU. Kang is already confirmed to return forAvengers: The Kang Dynastyand will likely star inAvengers: Secret Wars.
Ant-Man 3will also see the return of Evangeline Lilly as Hope van Dyne, Michael Douglas as Hank Pym, Michelle Pfeiffer as Janet van Dyne, and Kathryn Newton as Cassie Lang. Together, they will embark on an adventure through the Quantum Realm and come into contact with Kang.
