Remedy Entertainment has released Update 1.0.13 forAlan Wake 2, which adds New Game Plus and a new Final Draft ending to the game. The critically acclaimed sequelAlan Wake 2was tied with Game of the Year winnerBaldur’s Gate 3with an impressive eight nominations at the 2023 Game Awards. While it didn’t take home the grand prize, Remedy Entertainment andAlan Wake 2walked away with three wins: Best Narrative, Best Art Direction, and Best Game Direction.
SinceAlan Wake 2has taken the series in more of a survival horror direction, many players have been wishing for a New Game Plus mode to be added after the game launched in late October without one. It was at The Game Awards last week whereAlan Wake 2’s director Kyle Rowley quickly blurted out during an acceptance speech for Best Game Direction that New Game Plus is indeed coming to the game on December 11, and that it will include new story content in “The Final Draft.”
Now, just a few days later on December 11, Remedy Entertainment hasofficially detailedAlan Wake 2’s 1.0.13 update, which includes the promised New Game Plus mode and the new Final Draft ending. Players will need to have a completed save file ofAlan Wake 2in order to access New Game Plus, and players' weapons and charms will be retained and stored in the first shoebox storage crates Alan and Saga come across for retrieval. Additionally, all weapon upgrades will be retained as well, though it’s unclear ifAlan Wake’s Words of Power upgradeswill also be saved across New Game Plus.
This 1.0.13 update also brings a new Nightmare difficulty toAlan Wake 2, which makes sense considering players will be able to build up their arsenal of weapons and upgrades in subsequent New Game Plus runs to match the heightened difficulty. Additionally, the update comes loaded with improvements to multiple facets ofAlan Wake 2. These fixes include the PlayStation 5’s Quality Mode seeing a performance improvement, a fix for the lip-syncing issue that occurs whenSaga Anderson and Alex Casey arrive at Caludron Lakeat the beginning of the game, many lighting improvements, as well as a laundry list of global remedies across all platforms. Remedy added that it’s still working to fix audio sync issues for players on Xbox Series X and S, and that players should expect a fix when the next update hits in 2024.
What’s Next For Alan Wake 2?
Writer Sam Lake has already confirmed that free and paid DLC is set to come to the game post-launch, though it’s unclear whether this Final Draft update is the free DLC laid out by Lake. Nevertheless, with the game finally out the door, it wouldn’t be surprising to seeAlan Wake 2’s paid DLCbe officially unveiled sooner rather than later. Until then, fans can enjoy replayingAlan Wake 2to their heart’s content with New Game Plus having now been added.
