Despite its shaky launch and technical faults,Pokemon ScarletandViolethas done an impressive job providing fun and rewarding endgame content for players. The game’s Tera Raid battles have offered high-level Pokemon for players to take on by themselves or with friends, and Game Freak has regularly updated the available Pokemon in these battles to keep things fresh. They’ve also been an excellent gateway for collecting Pokemon not found inPaldea’s regional Pokedex, with Greninja fromPokemon X and Yto Decidueye fromPokemon Sun and Moonappearing in Tera Raid battles.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet’s most recent Tera Raid battle features Inteleon, the Water-type Pokemon introduced inPokemon Sword and Shield. Inteleon is the third Water-type starter to be added inScarlet and Violet, catching up with the three Fire-type starters that have already made an appearance through Tera Raid battles. The one starter typing that has been neglected by the Tera Raid battles is Grass-type, and it’s highly likely that the next seven-star Tera Raid will finally put it back in the spotlight. When that day comes, there’s one Grass-type in particular who deserves their chance to make some noise.

Rillaboom Should be the Next Pokemon Scarlet and Violet Tera Raid Battle

Introduced inPokemon Sword and Shield, Rillaboom is the final evolution of the Grass-type starter Grookey. Like many Grass-type starter evolutions, Rillaboom suffers from not being as widely popular as Cinderace or Inteleon. Nevertheless, it’s time thatPokemon Scarlet and Violetgives Grass-type starters their due. The first starter to be represented inScarlet and Violet’s Tera Raid battles was Charizard, ensuring one of the most well-known Pokemon in the whole franchise was available shortly after the game’s release. Cinderace and Greninja followed suit, thenthe Tera Raids began to take on a pattern.

After Greninja, the starters available inScarlet and Violet’s Tera Raid battles served to representPokemon Legends: Arceus, shortly after the first anniversary of the game. Decidueye, Samurott, and Typhlosion were all added within a few weeks of each other, significantly increasing the amount of previous starters that can be obtained inScarlet and Violet. With Inteleon serving as the newest starter and representing two thirds ofSword and Shield’s starters, it’s only right that Rillaboom is next in line. If Game Freak is interested in completing starter trios, the most logical move would be to include the Grass-type in the near future.

IfPokemon Scarlet and Violetdoes add Rillaboomas a seven-star Tera Raid battle, there are a few ways Game Freak could make the battle more challenging. Rillaboom is a pure Grass-type, but it could benefit the Pokemon if it was given a unique Tera-type. There are a few options Game Freak could entertain given Rillaboom’s musical proclivities and massive size, with Electric and Fighting standing out as possible options. Whatever the case may be, it would be enough for many fans of the Grass-type to just get its time in the spotlight.

The Tera Raid battles have been a resounding success inPokemon Scarlet and Violetup to this point, due in no small part to how they’ve added starters from previous games. There is no confirmation on which Pokemon will come after Inteleon, let alone if it will be a starter, but when the time comes it’s only right for theGrass-typesto get further representation with Rillaboom. Grass-types have routinely gotten the short end of the stick when it comes toPokemonstarters, and with how many Fire and Water-type starters are already inScarlet and Violet, Rillaboom should level the playing field.
