The Faraway Paladinis one of the standout anime of the Fall 2021 season, though the quality of the actual adaptation itself isn’t the greatest, the story, characters, and original manga/light novel all more than make up for it. And, the anime itself is still good, just not maybe ashigh-quality in the visuals/animation as some other LN adaptations. Then again, at least it’s an anime adaptation and not a live-action onesince those don’t seem to be doing so well lately.

So, if fans are tired of waiting for the next episode, or might just want to check out some other shows with a bit more “oomph” put into their adaptation, here are some of the best examples.
10Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation
Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnationneeds to be the first example on this list, primarilybecause the actual author ofThe Faraway PaladinLN actually confirmed on Twitter that they took a lot of inspiration fromMushoku Tenseiwhen writingTFP.
As far as the anime adaptation ofJobless Reincarnationis concerned, it’s insanely high quality, comparable to something likeMade in Abyss’adaptation or something similar. The actual story itself obviously has a fair bit in common withTFP,though the tone and characters differ greatly.

That said, be aware, there are a lot of “mature” themes inMushoku Tensei, just something to know before starting it up.
9By The Grace Of The Gods
By the Grace of the Godsis a perfect comfy show, in that nothing bad ever happens in it. It’s the best Isekai anime to watch for types of viewers who love slow-paced and comfy slice-of-life series. In it, Ryoma Takebayashi is reincarnated into the body of a child and meets personally with the Gods who seem to be the first people in his life to actually praise him for all his hard work back on Earth.
From there, Ryoma wakes up in his new body, in his new world, and finally starts to live a life surrounded by compassionate people who care about him. It’s comfy, it’s a bit sappy, it’s not the best adaptation (likeTFP) but it’s oh so enjoyable to watch, and is a great little mood booster as well.

8Grimgar: Of Fantasy And Ash
Grimgar: of Fantasy and Ashis yet another isekai story, but this one is a lot less absurd in its scale. It shows how dangerous hunting monsters should realistically be, rather than how it usually seemswith the slew of isekai and shounen seriesand their absurdly overpowered characters. In it, a group of (what are assumed to be) people from Earth awaken in a fantasy world with no memory of how they got there, and are expected to survive. And, it’s one of the only shows in recent memoryto have a Heroic Sacrifice that actually matters and one that has lasting mental repercussions on the other party members.
7Ranking Of Kings
To be fair, this next series is on this list primarily because it’s another fantasy-type anime airing in the Fall 2021 season, but viewers who like theFaraway Paladinwill almost assuredly enjoyRanking of Kingsas well.

In it, the second prince of a Kingdom named Bosse is unfortunately born without any physical strength, or the ability to hear and speak. Yet, he still is able to understand people, and he wants to eventually become the best King in the world someday. It’s a story about a well-meaning but naive main character slowly learning more about the world, themselves, and their place in it. And, once again, these are all traits that William G. Maryblood (the MC ofTFP) shares.
6To Your Eternity
To be honest, beforeThe Faraway Paladinwas adapted into an anime, a lot of manga-readers thought that William, its main character, had white hair instead of red. And, thinking about it now, if he did he would almost look exactly like Fushi fromTo Your Eternity.
Both of these absurdly overpowered MCs are constantly meeting characters that enamor and surprise them constantly and help them face their own weaknesses. For Will, it’s characters like Meneldor, Tonio, and Bee, while for Fushi it’s people like the first boy he ever met, March, and Gugu.

5That Time I Got Reincarnated As A Slime
TTIGRAASorSlime Reincarnationfor short doesn’t have a ton in common withThe Faraway Paladin, outside of both of them being isekai, or at least that how it seems on the surface. Looking deeper, Rimuru is a character who was unsatisfied with the way he lived previously and is now trying to live better in his second life, like William. And, both of these MCs do eventually find themselves with a whole bunch of people to look after and a city to maintain, so maybe they have more in common than it originally appeared.
Plus, the anime adaptation ofSlime Reincarnationis absurdly good,so much so that it’s more enjoyable than the source material manga, which is saying a lot since the source manga is incredible in its own right.

4Natsume’s Book Of Friends
Natsume’s Book of Friendsisn’t one of the most well-known anime out there, but those who know of it and have seen it only ever have amazing things to say about this story. In it, the main character Takashi Natsume is able to see spirits, a rarity in his world, and is eventually entrusted with the Book of Friends by his now-deceased Grandmother.

After this, Natsume goes around freeing all the spirits that were “bullied” into entering their name as a sort of “friendship contract” into this book, establishing new relationships and learning more about himself along the way. It’s an incredibly heartfelt story, with a lot of interesting characters and fun concepts, and it has a lot to offer to anyone who enjoyed the softer, more spiritual side ofThe Faraway Paladin.
3Tsukimichi: Moonlit Fantasy
Next up is yet another isekai story about an MC who has the whole world fall into his lap,Tsukimichi: Moonlit Fantasy. But, for some reason, this one goes so out-of-the-park with how overpowered its protagonist, Makoto Misumi, is that it circles back around to being hilariously enjoyable. It’s both a standard isekaiand also a bit of a reverse isekai too, considering where Makoto’s parents are originally from.
Honestly, it has more in common withReincarnated As A Slimethan it does withThe Faraway Paladin, but both shows do put a lot of emphasis on the magical concepts and Gods of their respective fantasy settings. Either way, it’s a great show with a lot of laughs to be had.

2Sunday Without God
This next recommendation has a setting unlike any other, and one that’s sort of contradictory toThe Faraway Paladin. This show is calledSunday Without God,and it’s set in a world where God has abandoned the Earth, and everybody left alive after this point can no longer die or have children.
In this world, the two main characters, Ai and Hampnie, travel around putting those to rest who have become tired of life. It’s a story that plays around with the concepts of God, Death, and Rebirth quite a lot, and really puts a lot of emphasis on the concept of living life to the fullest.

1Rokka: Braves Of The Six Flowers
Last up isRokka: Braves of the Six Flowers, a story that desperately needs a second season. The actual concept of this story is pretty simple, Six Heroes are picked by the Goddess of Fate to gather and defeat the Demon God. But, when all Six Heroes eventually meet up at the spot designated to them, they find out there are seven of them instead of six.
This revelation completely flips the show on its head and changes it from what seemed like it would be an action-oriented show into one with lots of internal conflicts, heavy conversations/debates, and plenty of drama. The main character in this story,Adelet Mayer, a charismatic delinquent,is the self-proclaimed strongest man in the world, but when he actually opens up a bit more, he has a lot in common with Will.
